I remember how excited I got when I read in MAX R&R about the bassist busting someone's head open with his bass during a gig. I was thinking EVERYONE should get to do that because punk audiences are always full of assholes at the front of the stage. I'm not sure I've changed, but I don't know if I'd technically get EXCITED by that any more, though.

And of course, the other way around there's Low doing their own songs in a Misfits style at Halloween.
http://www.chairkickers.com/low/archive/review/981031.htmlI was talking to Alan last night, about the Spaceland show and he told me a story about the show that I must relate....
He had been reading "Get in the Van" By Henry Rollins (the Blag Flag book) and he had read the story about the night they played w/ The Misfits. He said that it took a bit of convincing but he got Mimi and Zack to do the whole Misfits thing. Earlier that day he got Zack to draw on the tattoos, and along with those he got him to do the Black Flag bars. So later on they are in the venue waitng for soundcheck, and Alan decides to go wash his hair cause he's feeling kind of grungy. So he's in the bathroom washing his hair and someone comes in and says "Nice Bars, man", and proceeds to take a piss. Al thanked him and didn't think anything of it. Then another guy walks in and says "Hey Des." The guy named Des leaves. Then Al looks up and looks at the guy, and then he realized: that was Des from Black Flag. They both sarted laughing. Neat-o huh?

Saw them the day before yesterday, with a Ramone and a Black Flagger in the band and they were unbelievable.
I was expecting it to be a bit sad but NOOOOO!!!
I'm not even that big a fan normally. Thay played classics for ages and Jerry O was loving the crowd and stayed behind for ages signing things and grinning like satan.

Bobby Steele is the most approachable man in Punk Rock. He likes nothing better than to chat with folks on the street. And he's tough to miss, what with the cane and limp and all. But, I reckon the man can't go three sentences without invoking the "M" word (rhymes with "piss tits!")
Side note of bonus trivia: Nasty Jack Natz of Cop Shoot Cop cut his teeth in an early incarnation of the Undead. Now he's a bike messenger.

Misfits: easy target, but great, fun music. Poorly produced? Who cares, it still sounds great. Misfits should've been a million-dollar enterprise's idea. They were so fucking conceptually great, but it took years for Hollywood and popular culture to get hip to the Plan 9 culture that it's a damn shame to be living amongst such unfortunately retarded-tiime-travelling shmucks. The future is not NOW! for these dolts, the future is 10 years later, when nostalgia makes such things aceptable.

How do they write so many great songs? I don't know much about the Misfits but the two records I have are flawless and fun... Did Glen Danzig write the music and lyrics for the songs and if so where did he come from before this? What were the influences of the group and how did they form etc... I guess I could just trawl the internet but you guys probably have better stories.

Omg there's a thread for this! The Misfits are my favorite band of all time I think. I have a Misfits wallet, tee shirt, and of course the boxed set.
I was a bit brokenhearted when Jerry Only and company resurrected the Misfits without Danzig. There are many groups that can carry on without their original frontman, but this is not one of them.
My friend's band used to play a balls out cover of We are 138 followed by Return of the Fly if he caught people napping in the audience. Usually the locals didn't know what it was and would retreat to the bar, but one idiot actually had the balls to approach my friend at the end and he actually said... "Hey, I just wanted to give you some constructive criticism. But The Fly was with Jeff Goldblum and Geena Davis".

And they said it would never happen. Never!! However, this September, Original Singer/Songwriter Glenn Danzig, Original Bassist Jerry Only and long-time Guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein – for the “First Time in Over 30-Years” – will be stepping onto stage together as “The Original MISFITS” to headline Riot Fest & Rodeo in Denver, CO (September 2-4, 2016) and Riot Fest & Carnival in Chicago, IL (September 16-18, 2016). From the time of their first gig in 1977, the MISFITS and their iconic imagery went on to become one of the most crucially influential, genre-defying bands to ever emerge from North America, the MISFITS significance extends well beyond the narrowed path of punk rock & hardcore. Although not cognizant of how significant they would become, what the MISFITS achieved in their initial six-year window deconstructed and redefined rock music. All the while, the MISFITS with Danzig’s unmistakable voice, Only’s ferocious bass sound and the bands anthemic songs, melody-induced choruses and authentically bruising musicianship, cemented their importance with all ensuing generations, whether in arena-filled metal shows or in a sweaty 400-cap club in Tucson. And for the ‘First Time in over Three Decades,’ legions of diehard fans from around the world will have the opportunity to hear the Original Band that created thousands of bands in their wake.

After months of speculation, the ORIGINAL MISFITS announce that drummer Dave Lombardo will join them for their two Riot Fest dates (Denver, September 4th and Chicago, September 18th). The original drummer for Slayer, Lombardo will be providing his propulsive beat behind Original MISFITS members Glenn Danzig and Jerry Only, with longtime guitarist Doyle Wolfgang von Frankenstein. Danzig and Only will be playing together on stage for the first time since 1983. Lombardo says of joining the band for the dates, "The Misfits created the horror punk attitude and had a massive influence on modern rock, punk and metal. It was an easy decision for me to join them for these monumental shows. I was honored to be asked, and am very excited to be playing with the band. Judging by the rehearsals alone, Misfits fans will not be disappointed- this is everything they could have hoped for and more." Glenn Danzig says, "I first met Dave back in '88 when DANZIG did four shows with Slayer in the U.S., before the first DANZIG album was released. Dave is one of the best drummers around, and I can't wait for everyone to see him pounding MISFITS songs live for these special shows." Jerry Only says, "Dave Lombardo is a master at what he does. With the immensity of the two shows we're planning together, the biggest decision we had was who is going to keep time and power this monster machine on drums? When Dave Lombardo's name was thrown into the ring, Glenn and I were immediately on the same page from the very start, a good sign of things to come. I think the darker side of punk we created with the MISFITS spawned the growth and evolution of punk into thrash, and sired bands like Metallica and Slayer, just as we inspired countless others in the punk revolution."

Glenn was even in good spirits for....the first time ever. Though there was a strangely long lull before the encore which had three of us theorizing what violence was occurring backstage (Doyle eating Mr Anzalone was my favorite).
Oh and during "When Eagles Dare" they flashed the words "I ain't no goddamn son of a bitch" on the screen, opera style

probably going.
seen the Glenn reunion at Psycho Vegas in 2019, on the one hand, yeah, it def felt a bit lame to be seeing the mega-sellout version of a show that in the 80s would have played in scuzzy, dank basements with shit PA systems and Glenn getting into fights mid-show half the time....but then the music started and I stopped caring.
idk that it was that much better than when Glenn was touring Danzig and brought Doyle out for the short Misfits set, (other than being full length), idk that Jerry Only's lame ass being there helped that much, but it was a mega cool experience for someone who couldn't be there during the original run.
