i liked their last record unlike most but am happy they are something else now since you can only make so much of that

that said, this has less character than the last 2 records even if its a bit more adventurous

yeah deserves it's own thread like Midlake - The Courage Of Others did.

after a few listens, "Provider" and "The Old And the Young" stand out, the rest is nice but not essential

courage of others is still my fave. this is a pleasant listen tho.

this is actually pretty great, but I'm already prone to liking the more prog turns they're taking here. I thought The Courage of Others was a bit of a letdown, but this is nice.

Any thoughts on this?

i loved that one record where they sounded like a fleetwood mac tribute-act.

I enjoyed it a lot for than The Courage of Others which was a huge disappointment for me but haven't felt the need to go back to it. I'll always love Van Occupanther but think that's the only album I need by them.

thanks to this (thread) i checked it out - i love Van Occupanther, Courage and Antiphon did nothing for m- but Banman etc is very cool. kinda Granddaddy-ish with all the oldskool Casio fun. :)

Nine years later nu-Midlake made a follow-up. Sonically it sounds a lot like Van Occupanther. Just one listen so far so I’m not sure I’m ready to make any kind of value judgement.

Time will tell how it holds up, but after first blush this new one is a lot better than I had expected.
