New solo album from Verve frontman. Reviews are bashing it. I was not impressed with "alone with everybody". Hoping this isn't as bad as I've been reading. Anyone here any of it yet? Just get the verve back together already...

except for that little string-fuelled middle eighth, where it actually does something verging on interesting for 30 seconds before crash-landing back in ashcroft's boring muddle of c, am, em, f and g and chords (vary order at will)

ashcroft made interesting comments to zane lowe regarding the new single and its comparison to 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' with Lowe suggesting the looped strings on both constitute the equivalent of hip hop breaks and that ashcroft should be working with the Neptunes - to which i think Ashcroft replied he actually was or was planning to, like everyone it seems. this reminded me of how Ian Brown also likes to align himself with hip hop in some way - i think its a little curious they do this and i'm not sure there's much in it but as for 'check the meaning' itself i dont think its 'staggeringly poor' unless you consider all M.O.R./dadrock to be that - its a fairly decent if pedestrian modern representation of the genre at least...i like the strings

PRobably have a good chuckle. I can't remember what the Top Of The Pops presenter said exactly but I do remember laughing hysterically after she said he was brilliant.

I don't know why he's dicking round with the Neptunes trying to sound hip. He should just go the route he's destined for and make an easy listening, Bing Crosby style record.
