Bossa/Soft Pop etc....

Can anyone explain why the whole Siesta/Trattoria/Bungalow/Tricatel Records etc. etc. latin/soft pop thing, has never taken off in the UK?

Maybe I should just ask: Is uplifting music anathema to the British 'independent' music listener?

I like Leila France and I'm British! Plus, we have Saint Etienne

I think part of the problem - certainly as regards The Free Design and Bertrand Burgalat & his protegés - is that people associate it with the easy listening revival of the 90s rather than current chart pop. Which is a shame. (The Siesta label has also been claimed by the 'twee' brigade, which may be a problem for some. Well, it is for me.)

The recent Chickfactor Black and White Ball in London was full of people who like that stuff!
