Trenchmouth: C or D

In honor of drummer Fred Armisen joining the Saturday Night Live crew ...

Still one of the best live bands I've ever seen, and sorely underrated. I think they were ten years too early - now that bands that do half-assed versions of what they did are getting ten times as much attention, they could have wiped the floor with, say, Radio 4.

I never heard 'em, but Fred's one of the funniest humans alive (which means, if he joins the SNL cast, he will soon become unfunny, which is a travesty).

The first SNL of the season made me pull the Trenchmouth records out for the first time in ages. They were great! I reckon they'd wipe the floor with Dismemeberment Plan, too.

classic fa'sheezy.

"Vs. The Light of the Sun" is one of the greatest albums of all time.

So Fred is really in the cast? like the new Horatio Sanz?

Wow. Weird news at first, but there's something so cosmically right about the drummer for Trenchmouth going on to be a comedian...

Yet another band Trenchmouth could wipe the floor with: Liars.

Is he actually joining the writing/performing team or just the house band?

Armisen isn't one of the featured cast members -- he's one of those people who gets mentioned after Morgan, Fallon, Fey, etc. He did get to display some of his percussion skills during the first Weekend Update of the season. (He's one of the best live drummers I've seen.)

eight years pass...

"Vs. The Light of the Sun" is one of the greatest albums of all time.

"Washington! Washington!" sure served as a good wake up this morning.

two years pass...

And now Armisen is going to be Seth Myers's house band leader...I pulled out my Trenchmouth records last night and I will still rep hard for them, "Vs the Light of the Sun" in particular. These guys were my favorite band for awhile in the mid-90s, so great live.

I saw their last Mpls show right before their break-up and Fred did this whole bit about how the audience was to blame for them breaking up and how we were awful. Which in hindsight I now realize was a bit he was doing but at the time when I was 19 I was totally clueless and it was so awkward & bizarre.

Great band.

There was a D.C. band called Trenchmouth that was together circa 79 to 80 http://www.ramblingshadows.com/html/Trenchmouth/Trenchmouth.htm

Yes! It was the early all-ager, I remember Damon Locks talking to someone in front of the stage, then just hopped up to play the set and the second they were done he got off stage again and continuted the conversation like nothing happened.

Someone yelled "whay are you breaking up?" (laughs, cheers)

Fred: "Because of you people. You are the reason we are breaking up." (dead silence)

That show is burned into my brain, it was a formative moment for me!

I saw them three or four times and they were always great, I remember a fantastic set opening for Jawbox in the mainroom as well.
