Really interesting to see a very classical-sounding falsettist translating their vocal chops to stuff like this

Star Gentle Uterus (DJP), Friday, 13 June 2014 21:59 (nine years ago) link

absolutely

track 5 was the only misstep; everything else has been lovely

less opera than AnCo tbh

that said I'm kind of into a lot of this

Tracked down a couple of live video performances and dude's voice is much more obviously classical-countertenory in them

Also if you take out the percussion tracks, most of his songs sound like 20th century art songs to me

What's countertenors?
I guess I just used operatic in the sense that there is a level of training and skill going on that's not just indie rock

I thought of Klaus Nomi too

A countertenor is a man who sings primarily/exclusively in the female range, nowadays usually via falsetto. In common modern voice parlance, think of it as a guy singing alto or soprano.

Here's someone doing a historical analysis of high-signing men via a blog post:

Here's an NPR article talking about some of the countertenors out there in the classical sphere today:

ah cool thanks
anyway this is one of the more interesting records i've heard this year
seems to be almost totally unknown even in minneapolis
