i need new boots. considering some red wing iron rangers, or something similar.

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 31 December 2009 18:34 (fourteen years ago) link

ll bean apparently sells a very similar style for a good deal less than the red wings -- i've heard good things about red wings' durability but have never owned a pair. is the construction that good? like $100+ extra good?

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 31 December 2009 18:44 (fourteen years ago) link

i could go for a pair of white's semi-dress boots but I would never be able to justify buying another pair of boots ever again.

Oh WOW but then, I love old lady shoes. If the perforations on the front were slightly less flower petal-y, I'd run out and buy those myself.

Well, and if I had any money....

Just got my income tax rebate, no longer broke, finally able to get a pair of shoes that are not my runners, my dress shoes or my dying (let's be honest, dead) pair of chuck taylors.

Of course, I do not know shoes. Time to read this thread start to finish.

laurel look! fake ghillies made by designer isabel toledo for PAYLESS. not sure the point of these, but i can't help but like them a little bit. i am a sucker for fake dancing shoes. i regularly wear a pair of low heeled tan character shoes when i need a neutral heel for work.

I do like the idea of a spat revival, though, j. Very much so.

pointy toes don't work so well for me. i wish i could just buy another pair of the 3cco biker boots i had a couple of years, but they make an updated version - of which i have a pair now - that aren't nearly as nice.

i LOVE spats. and legwarmers. they are basically a girl's bestfriend if she has fat ankles she doesn't want to show off (e.g. me).

those spats are on etsy, and they're REVERSIBLE!! http://www.etsy.com/listing/58280118/little-red-riding-spats-reversible

think i might get a pair.

just1n3, Friday, 8 October 2010 21:07 (fourteen years ago) link

i like these too

i am a sucker for a wedge heel

just1n3, Friday, 8 October 2010 21:12 (fourteen years ago) link

My first impulse re the etsy spats, is that I would prefer them to have a strip of elastic under the shoe, right under your arch, because if they shifted just a little bit, that COOOOOOOLD winter breeze is going to right up your ankle. Better keep 'em in place from the start!

If you want biker boots, get the original Fryes, is my recommendation.

since she's an etsy seller, you could probably ask her to add some kind of stirrup? i want them in a deep olive green velvet/corduroy.
