Lamp, Friday, 2 January 2009 06:25 (fifteen years ago) link

yes it is

TOMBOT, Friday, 2 January 2009 06:30 (fifteen years ago) link

plus they fall apart

TOMBOT, Friday, 2 January 2009 06:30 (fifteen years ago) link

maybe u need to buy nicer shoes?? i think good work shoes are important i cant get the img to post but i mostly wear stuff like this nothing superfancy but still stylish and well-made.

Lamp, Friday, 2 January 2009 06:39 (fifteen years ago) link

also obv comfort levels vary and we work in pretty different industries but i'd feel uncomfortable wearing something informal like those slipper-sneakers even if my feet liked them better. like more than just physical comfort i get a sense of security out of seeming put-together

Lamp, Friday, 2 January 2009 06:41 (fifteen years ago) link

hi there, i would like a pair of simple black leather lace-ups but (a) i don't want stupid inch-high rubber soles, (b) don't want square toes, cap toes, or brogues, and (c) i would like to spend less that 300 fucking dollars

halp

otoh i guess i could get men's 'character' dance shoes w/o the taps for pretty cheap but i don't know how well they would wear for daily use

macy's has a large selection of men's shoes on sale

you should be able to score a pair for under $100

warmsherry, Friday, 2 January 2009 21:58 (fifteen years ago) link

the range of style @ the local macy's is usually bit narrow but i will check it out, thanks for the tip!

let me tell you what i have discovered since i revived this thread:

i) if you want to go to clarks at heathrow then make sure you check what terminal your flight leaves from, because they won't let you go to terminal 1 just to check out the shops

ii) there are no shoe shops in echo park (warehouse shoe sale proved unsatisfactory)

xxxxxp - Skip the 'Ebony Vintage' Desert Boot and get the beeswax leather. Way better looking.

You guys, I bought a pair of high-heeled "shooties", sort of. Spectator-style. I'll get a photo tonight for your amusement.

They are going to rock hard with pinstripe tights, though.

I also bought YET ANOTHER pair of mid-heeled black patent-and-suede women's pumps with some kind of harness buckle detail on the toe. Predictable, me.

the only shoes i want these days are boots made by the guy who makes boots up the street from my workplace. i also need him to fix the zipper on a pair of winter boots i have. which would make my winter boot situation more interesting x2

hey so um wasn't it once the case that you could send your frye boots back to frye, for free (+ s&h) and they would resole/repair/whatever and send them back to you? because i can find no reference to this on their website!

also, UNRELATEDLY of course, any recs for cobblers in my area would be a+!

So, Urban Outfitters is selling these shoes that I think look really nice:

http://i44.tinypic.com/2wob2bs.jpg

The reviews online say they're really poorly made (which doesn't surprise me considering the source). Any idea where I could find something that looks like this but better made? The DKNYs warmsherry posted upthread are similar, but not quite. I think I just really like the low profile on these and the worn look...

wmlynch, Thursday, 5 March 2009 18:50 (fifteen years ago) link

schef - i don't know if it says that officially on the site still? but i have a pair that the soles got fucked up pretty fast & i was all mad so i emailed customer service and they gave me an address and said, send them in and they would repair. maybe they don't advertise it.. but prob if you email they would help you out?

wmlynch: i know ive seen that mod derby look before, probably from vass but their website is lol "under construction" and i cant GIS a match

cole haan had a pair like that before but they dont make them anymore. they also didnt have a lining

I've basically worn out all my flats & dancing shoes so that they don't even stay on anymore. I need a whole new shoe wardrobe. How depressing.

lauren recommended a good cobbler near u square. i haven't been yet, but i trust her on these things.

I wd trust her, too. I also found a lot of really gorgeous shoes on endless.com clearance, but first I need a place to PUT those shoes, and that means $$ goes to apartment and not to footwear.

they look better on than they do in the photo, though, b/c they lace tight so are actually fitted at the ankle. and are very very very dark indigo that might as well be black. i feel a little guilty for spending the money but, seller on ebay put them on sale & then i sent a ridiculously lowball offer and they took it, so i got them for abt 1/3 of the original price.

So I just got this dress which looks better in person and is really cute/flattering on in a very 60s kind of way:

http://i29.photobucket.com/albums/c287/expatrica/circleprintdress.jpg

I'm thinking black flats with this but anybody have any other suggestions in case I want to change it up?

OK, you're good.

dress is really nice btw imo iirc

Lamp, Friday, 5 June 2009 04:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Hey, thanks! I love those heels but may have to find a shorter option. I'd be like 6'2" and unable to walk in those babies.

OK, why is it so hard to find a pair of black flats? that's all. simple, black, flats. not dowdy. not with stuff on them. oh, and size 11, which is always sold out everywhere if the shoes aren't ugly, apparently.

i have been looking for a pair of black flats to replace my very worn out privos and i can not find ANYTHING. it is pissing me off.

meanwhile, i got these:

I wish the thrice-damned shoe companies would just make the SAME STYLE year after year, so I could replace my old ones. I don't WANT new shoes, I want my old shoes again!!

I'd go on a hunt for you, daria, but I like shoes with buckles. Big gold buckles. Actually I'm thinking about stocking up on 3 pair of these:

Actually on that note, I just found EVERYTHING I want on 6pm.com. Does anyone have experience w them? They have shoes from last fall for about half price -- I feel like styles that are over 1 year old should be cheaper than 50% off? But this is my last chance to stock up on shoes that I wear out after 1-2 years of regular wear.
