hey so um wasn't it once the case that you could send your frye boots back to frye, for free (+ s&h) and they would resole/repair/whatever and send them back to you? because i can find no reference to this on their website!

also, UNRELATEDLY of course, any recs for cobblers in my area would be a+!

the schef (adam schefter ha ha), Wednesday, 25 February 2009 17:29 (fifteen years ago) link

So, Urban Outfitters is selling these shoes that I think look really nice:

http://i44.tinypic.com/2wob2bs.jpg

The reviews online say they're really poorly made (which doesn't surprise me considering the source). Any idea where I could find something that looks like this but better made? The DKNYs warmsherry posted upthread are similar, but not quite. I think I just really like the low profile on these and the worn look...

wmlynch, Thursday, 5 March 2009 18:50 (fifteen years ago) link

schef - i don't know if it says that officially on the site still? but i have a pair that the soles got fucked up pretty fast & i was all mad so i emailed customer service and they gave me an address and said, send them in and they would repair. maybe they don't advertise it.. but prob if you email they would help you out?

wmlynch: i know ive seen that mod derby look before, probably from vass but their website is lol "under construction" and i cant GIS a match

I've basically worn out all my flats & dancing shoes so that they don't even stay on anymore. I need a whole new shoe wardrobe. How depressing.

i also need a whole new shoe wardrobe. it is really, really sad. :(

lauren recommended a good cobbler near u square. i haven't been yet, but i trust her on these things.

yur twit (tehresa), Friday, 6 March 2009 17:15 (fifteen years ago) link

I wd trust her, too. I also found a lot of really gorgeous shoes on endless.com clearance, but first I need a place to PUT those shoes, and that means $$ goes to apartment and not to footwear.

they look better on than they do in the photo, though, b/c they lace tight so are actually fitted at the ankle. and are very very very dark indigo that might as well be black. i feel a little guilty for spending the money but, seller on ebay put them on sale & then i sent a ridiculously lowball offer and they took it, so i got them for abt 1/3 of the original price.

So I just got this dress which looks better in person and is really cute/flattering on in a very 60s kind of way:

I'm thinking black flats with this but anybody have any other suggestions in case I want to change it up?

OK, you're good.

ENBB, Friday, 5 June 2009 03:59 (fifteen years ago) link

dress is really nice btw imo iirc

Lamp, Friday, 5 June 2009 04:07 (fifteen years ago) link

Hey, thanks! I love those heels but may have to find a shorter option. I'd be like 6'2" and unable to walk in those babies.

OK, why is it so hard to find a pair of black flats? that's all. simple, black, flats. not dowdy. not with stuff on them. oh, and size 11, which is always sold out everywhere if the shoes aren't ugly, apparently.

i have been looking for a pair of black flats to replace my very worn out privos and i can not find ANYTHING. it is pissing me off.

i'm worried they're a little cheap and will be v v uncomfortable.

I wish the thrice-damned shoe companies would just make the SAME STYLE year after year, so I could replace my old ones. I don't WANT new shoes, I want my old shoes again!!

I'd go on a hunt for you, daria, but I like shoes with buckles. Big gold buckles. Actually I'm thinking about stocking up on 3 pair of these:

Actually on that note, I just found EVERYTHING I want on 6pm.com. Does anyone have experience w them? They have shoes from last fall for about half price -- I feel like styles that are over 1 year old should be cheaper than 50% off? But this is my last chance to stock up on shoes that I wear out after 1-2 years of regular wear.

It's boot season again. Which Frye boots should I splurge on?

At $400 a pair? Take your pick.

Laurel <3 buckles:

When I opened this thread it temporarily stopped loading at this post and then it continued and at that moment the most recent post was this one and I did a total double take :-)

StanM, Tuesday, 20 October 2009 18:22 (fourteen years ago) link

I ordered a replacement pair last week and threw my old ones away; the sides were actually ripped through.

The silver buckles were out of stock, need a new supplier.

i realized i don't have any "adult" shoes... just purple floral print nike hightops, dirty white leather high-tops, red and white striped boat shoes with bells at the end of the laces, and pink and white striped plimsolls.... i think maybe time to get some...

phil-two, Friday, 23 October 2009 02:47 (fourteen years ago) link

i found a pair of flats (from ebay so they cost a LOT less than they would at apc, still imho absurdly overpriced because they're not that sturdy, which was a surprise, i have some apc boots that are great)

i keep buying non-fashion shoes like running shoes or hiking boots, but i STILL need a new pair of plain black flats arghhhhhhhhh. as much as i love seattle i do not see myself purchasing any dansko clogs anytime soon. gah. daria, yours look nice! but i need something supportive.

i need new boots. considering some red wing iron rangers, or something similar.

http://i696.photobucket.com/albums/vv322/confab_album/rw_02.jpg

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 31 December 2009 18:34 (fourteen years ago) link

ll bean apparently sells a very similar style for a good deal less than the red wings -- i've heard good things about red wings' durability but have never owned a pair. is the construction that good? like $100+ extra good?

elmo leonard (elmo argonaut), Thursday, 31 December 2009 18:44 (fourteen years ago) link

i could go for a pair of white's semi-dress boots but I would never be able to justify buying another pair of boots ever again.
