yes i like that, too! yay prints!
off to look for a BOLERO!
― horseshoe, Thursday, 2 August 2012 01:36 (eleven years ago) link
sorry i'm not helping with the dressesi would honestly just go get something really simple and dress it up with accessories/scarf/shoes/hairdo (your hair is beautiful, consider a pretty hair ornament as a central wardrobe piece?)
― nicest bitch of poster (La Lechera), Thursday, 2 August 2012 01:37 (eleven years ago) link
Eeeh, hair ornament? I'm not sure where I'd even start with that.
― emil.y, Thursday, 2 August 2012 01:43 (eleven years ago) link
this is totally unhelpful as it is beyond your budget and i don't know if tracy reese has a retailer in the uk, but i went looking for long-sleeved dresses:

― horseshoe, Thursday, 2 August 2012 02:01 (eleven years ago) link
the only shrug on the dorothy perkins that looked like it could function as long-sleeved is this: http://media.dorothyperkins.com/wcsstore/DorothyPerkins/images/catalog/28000044_2_thumb.jpg it's available in beige if that coral is too bright for you.
― horseshoe, Thursday, 2 August 2012 02:03 (eleven years ago) link
Haha, that dress is hella stylish, but not really my colour scheme either (I don't think Tracy Reese does have a UK retailer, but I'm not that up on these things - it's not one I've heard mentioned before, anyway).
Not convinced by the shrug. I found an ebay BOLERO! that I like but it might be a bit heavy for a summer thing? But then surely the nature of a BOLERO! is that it is light? http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/400238822141?var=lv<yp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&adtype=pla

link to purchase that long sleeved Tracy reed dress right now, please.

yes ma'am
it is expensive but some of the stuff on her site is onsale. i will retrieve some sale options
― horseshoe, Thursday, 2 August 2012 02:15 (eleven years ago) link
la lechera otm - get a simple monochrome dress in a shape that suits your body type and then glam it up with a diamante barrette or similar and a nice BOLERO! or short cardi (you could buy a cheap cheap cardi and replace the buttons with fancier ones, too).
― just1n3, Thursday, 2 August 2012 02:24 (eleven years ago) link
If you like the short-sleeved dress and nothing else jumps out at you, you could always put a stretchy knit top with long sleeves underneath it. That might be a bigger challenge to find than the dress, perversely, but something in brown/beige/grey/pink/peach with long or 3/4-length sleeves underneath could work.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the cut of that tracy reese, though I don't know if I would be comfortable with the print (love it, too, but just not on plain ole me).
― quincie, Thursday, 2 August 2012 14:14 (eleven years ago) link
i know what you mean. i have a general aversion to floral prints (i blame the 90s) but sometimes they look fabulous but i still don't think they're really me. i do think that dress is lovely but maybe not my thing?
― horseshoe, Thursday, 2 August 2012 14:28 (eleven years ago) link
it's very important that i agonize about whether this dress i can't afford suits me
i went back to the tracy reese site to find sale dresses to post here but there were so many dresses and i went into a trance. dress trance.
― horseshoe, Thursday, 2 August 2012 14:30 (eleven years ago) link
also that dress is so demure! maybe with a different neckline.
Ummm. It looks like bespoke might not actually be too late. If I can make it to a fitting tomorrow, anyway.

Oasis is killing it right now imo. Tried on both of these today, both looked nicer in person but not quite the right fit for my body shape:

The designer I work for is doing a 30% off sale until end of August. To avoid being unforgivably spam, anyone who is interested can reach out to me if you'd like for details.

it's weird but i like iti find that wearing dresses like that is kinda hard with shorter hair because there's a surprisingly lot more skin showing if hair isn't distracting the eye/braion from everything else on display
maybe that's just me being self-conscious though

brain!
my god i am really on top of the typos today
My hair is pretty long now! It touches my shoulder blades. But yeah, I have definite ideas about which looks work with short hair and which with long. I am going to hair spray it up like I'm in Ratt.
I figure I should step it up after only being 1/2 sparkly during the Sparkle Party:

this is my other option which is more demure but I'm worried that belted bit might not be stretchy enough, damn the beer belly
http://www.forever21.com/images/model_front/00049287-05.jpg
I might actually wear that one again though

i'm just thanking the stars that my friends don't tell me what to weari don't even know people irl who do that, i don't think?! is this a bachelorette party or something?
― these albatrosses have no fear of man (La Lechera), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 20:12 (eleven years ago) link
Although it is not a thing I would wear, I quite like that first dress. Especially if you work some metal hair.
― ms. cookie (carl agatha), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 20:20 (eleven years ago) link
no, it's just for fun. No one's forcing me to go and as you can see, last time I went kind of low key about my sparkles. I felt underdressed though, so this time I thought I'd go for it!
The last time this happened was February, and I see most of these ladies at pub nights and whatnot, but sometimes I just want to wear something ridiculous and dance. And my shy husband(/most of them in our friend group) takes a LOT of convincing to go dance :P
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 20:30 (eleven years ago) link
I hope I can get the metal hair to work! I'm a fidgeter so my hair always ends up smoothed down by constantly touching it.
― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Tuesday, 21 August 2012 20:32 (eleven years ago) link
My hair is ridic long right now. Almost to my waist. And I need new dresses. The ASOS one was too big for me and looked like a sack. :(
― homosexual II, Wednesday, 22 August 2012 17:08 (eleven years ago) link

― she started dancing to that (Finefinemusic), Wednesday, 22 August 2012 17:49 (eleven years ago) link
I'm thinking of stocking up on Asos. Looking at petite dresses on sale and they are lolsome SHORT. Maybe cos the sale stuff is the summer merch. But has anyone tried their petites? I am quite short from waist to shoulder so non-petite dresses normally bag around my arm height.
Tall people: do Asos regular sizes fit you in height and length?
― check the name, no caps, boom, i'm (Laurel), Monday, 27 August 2012 20:42 (eleven years ago) link
I am not tall (5'6") but I find their regular size dresses fit me in length as expected. I'm also talking Asos Curve.
