Sure. Clearly no thought has been given to cold climate-living in these things with giant garage doors open to your cavernous living spaces. Every one of them is impossible to heat.

was gonna say i can only imagine the heating costs. i bet propane (and propane accessories) play a part.
― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Monday, 27 April 2020 17:17 (four years ago) link
as a barndominium expert, having watched too many of these videos, they all seem to be built with super mega insulation and use splits to air condition portions separately but it's still like air conditioning a mall and your heat would just go all to the ceiling. the one i was watching yesterday was explaining that because the bathroom is so far away from the hot water heater there is a motion sensor that turns on a motor when you enter the bathroom so that it moves hot water to the bathroom in anticipation of you turning on the sink or shower. lol. it's all just the most american thing.

Barndominiums look like gigantic trailer homes to my eyes. That's a lot of sheet metal flying around during a tornado.
APS, that one above looks awesome. Needs more Grape Nehi signs though.

There's a cool B&B in Kingston NY that's a converted church.

probable followup: ok so what is a barn then
― donald failson (sic), Monday, April 27, 2020 7:21 PM (yesterday)
Pole buildings and barns use a post-frame construction where laminated wood posts make up the bulk of the framing. The roof utilizes trusses connected by purlins. The exterior consists of steel panel claddings that “hold” the structure together. Contrary to popular belief, the construction does not include poles, or interior columns.
That seems clear enough (ddg's "purlins"), sure, got it.
By contrast, a stick-frame building contains a basement or crawlspace over which builders construct the building. The frame also requires a concrete foundation for support. Due to the construction of the foundation, building costs are far higher.

A barn is a sanctuary in a unsettled world, a sheltered place where life's true priorities are clear. When you take a step back, it's not just about horses – its about love, life, and learning. ... Indeed, horses have the hearts of warriors and often carry us into and out fields of personal battles.

I don't get the sides of the barndominium with metal signs advertising Shell, Texaco, Mobile, Exxon, Sinclair, Phillips 66... There was never a wall that had all that crap in one place before, why now?
Might as well have a wall for McDonalds, Burger King, Waffle House, Denny's, Texas Barnhouse Steak Place, Starbucks. Would make about as much random sense as the other ones.
