Does anyone actually call Spaghetti Bolognese this?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 26 September 2003 11:31 (twenty-two years ago)

I like garlic bread

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Friday, 26 September 2003 11:50 (twenty-two years ago)

My friend Hayley did once and I didn't understand what she meant. It was written down though.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Friday, 26 September 2003 12:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, am I (are we, E agrees I know) right in thinking the guy in that ad is an utter cock?

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Friday, 26 September 2003 12:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i do

jonathan gittins (nevermind^), Friday, 26 September 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

...call it "spag bol"

jonathan gittins (nevermind^), Friday, 26 September 2003 16:49 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah that guy is an utter cock - he cant even say OR make spaghetti bolognese

ducklingmonster, Friday, 26 September 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

My dad calls it "spag bol". He's one of those people that can't say a word as it is - he has to make it shorter or longer, it's very irritating.

Livvie Tapper (Livvie), Saturday, 27 September 2003 00:56 (twenty-two years ago)

saying 'spag bol' is just such a dad joke

ducklingmonster, Saturday, 27 September 2003 04:03 (twenty-two years ago)

the english people i am forced to associate with here call it that. actually i would love some for dinner tonight, with really buttery garlic bread and unlimited parmesan cheese - so once you've eaten one layer of caked cheese off you can sprinkle another on.

i remember in '98 there was a shift, in wellington flats, away from spag bol 3 times a week to coconut milk vegie curries - did this happen elsewhere in nz around that time too?

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Saturday, 27 September 2003 07:22 (twenty-two years ago)

That's exactly what we had for dinner, f'real.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Saturday, 27 September 2003 09:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i am jealous. the only pasta i've had here was squid ink pasta that shot outta me 2 hours after it went in. never in the history of the close watching of my bowl movements had i ever for a moment been able to confuse the product with bitumen, like i did that day.

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Saturday, 27 September 2003 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I used to looooove pasta...now I can't even bring myself to look at the stuff. Spaghetti is still the best one though...

Lola Falana, Saturday, 27 September 2003 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

"the english people i am forced to associate with", *throws clare into a pit of something nasty >:|*

jonathan gittins (nevermind^), Monday, 29 September 2003 15:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Nasty...like fettucine alfredo?

Lola Falana, Monday, 29 September 2003 17:38 (twenty-two years ago)

"the english people i am forced to associate with", *throws clare into a pit of something nasty >:|*

my own, described upthread, shit would do.

sorry, these brits are no good, but, you know, i'm sure as a people the english are probably fine.

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 12:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Most NZers are English, after all, unless you differentiate Scots etc which actually I do so who cares

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:45 (twenty-two years ago)

OCH AYE!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 13:48 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah! i could be a bint and say you're the spawn of our criminals and baddies!:P hrumph.

jonathan gittins (nevermind^), Tuesday, 30 September 2003 15:26 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah! i could be a bint and say you're the spawn of our criminals and baddies!:P hrumph.

that's aussies, not nzers.

there's a HUGE difference between english people and kiwis, regardless of our shared origins. for example, we cook our fish and chips fresh; the f & c i had in england, at a supposedly good chippie, had been hanging around for what tasted like years.

Clare (not entirely unhappy), Monday, 6 October 2003 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

If you called spaghetti bolognese spaghetti bolognese and you weren't a chef, you might be looked on as a tryhard. Which is why people say spag bol, because it doesn't smack of effort, I guess. It doesn't smack of edibility either, mind you. That guy on that ad used to have shorter hair and be a presenter on Max TV.

Damian (Damian), Monday, 6 October 2003 09:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course, I am a chef after all

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 6 October 2003 10:43 (twenty-two years ago)

So long as you are wont to say BORK BORK BORK.

Damian (Damian), Monday, 6 October 2003 11:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I like to grab live chickens and try and cook them, if that's what yr getting at

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 6 October 2003 12:16 (twenty-two years ago)

You sunk my battleship.

Damian (Damian), Monday, 6 October 2003 12:29 (twenty-two years ago)

P-KOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWWWSHHHHHH

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Monday, 6 October 2003 12:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm not huge on fish and chips tbh and most "chippies" are scruffy as fuck anyway, so bound to be shit, and sorreh, thought j00 were from aus:) but still, never mind:)

jonathan gittins (nevermind^), Monday, 6 October 2003 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

OCH AYE

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 7 October 2003 09:46 (twenty-two years ago)

THE NOOH

jonathan gittins (nevermind^), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 06:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey what does "the nooh" even mean?!

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 08:29 (twenty-two years ago)

It's a great new Scottish new rock n' roll band, like the White Stripes but with added Scottishness. Seriously though, I'd like to know too.

Damian (Damian), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh me too, especially as I've only previously seen it spelt "Noo". And I say it a bit.

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 11:07 (twenty-two years ago)

well ifi said "noo" it'd sound to imbeciles like an on going "no" so i added the "h" to get the desired effect:]

jonathan gittins (nevermind^), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

But the MEANING sir, the MEANING!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 8 October 2003 13:55 (twenty-two years ago)

haha:P ok, it backfired, i underestimated some people's intelligence:P

jonathan gittins (nevermind^), Thursday, 9 October 2003 07:27 (twenty-two years ago)

one year passes...
A thread all too relevant to what I'm planning to cook for Livvie and Stu on Friday

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 15:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm there's a guy who sings backing vocals on this Queens of the Stone Age rec called "Nick Eldorado".

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 15:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I was meant to make pasta and meatballs from Nigella Bites for my parents on Tuesday, but then I found out who had actually gotten my job and was too upset to cook.

Elisabeth (Elisabeth), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

chris andrews (fraew), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

You should tell him some guy stole his name, sort of

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 01:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, who ISN'T in a band w/ Mick Elborado?

Livvie (Livvie), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 08:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I can't wait for dinner!

Livvie (Livvie), Wednesday, 8 June 2005 08:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Let's see if we remember to/can be bothered to make it

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 9 June 2005 15:09 (twenty-one years ago)
