I'm so bored. I need friends in Orlando and people to play chess with. And places that I can walk to.
I'm so bored.

more like bore-lando
― harbl, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 03:06 (sixteen years ago)
YES
and I live 12 miles from the downtown area
― bamcquern, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 03:08 (sixteen years ago)
with all due respect who would live in florida
― harbl, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 03:09 (sixteen years ago)
i used to live in orlando, it was boring and hot and the lakes were really just dank puddles in a swamp.
― estela, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 03:16 (sixteen years ago)
i did like the turtles though.
― estela, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 03:24 (sixteen years ago)
my grandmother lives in Dank Puddles, Florida
― velko, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 03:26 (sixteen years ago)
That is a place?
harbl, I grew up here and did not have a choice. If I could get residency to go to college somewhere else I would. Even if it were feasible to be in school in Pensacola, Tallahassee, Gainesville or the coast, I would. Orlando is probably one of the worst places in the world. Even stuff to do in the downtown area is very hit or miss.

whenever I get full I start singing "i'm so fuuuuuuull, I wear my pants below my waist," so now whenever I get bored I'm going to hear this thread's title to that.

I lived in Key West when I was little. I think if you have to live in Florida the Keys are the way to go.

a long way to go
― Kerm, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 04:04 (sixteen years ago)
^ True.
My grandpanrents used to live on Sanibel Island which was also very nice.
The rest of Florida is pretty shitty imho. I'm sorry you're stuck in Orlando.

when we got our apartment the manager said excitedly that she was giving us one with a lake view and when we looked out the window we viewed a puddle with some mud around it and a cloud of gnats.
― estela, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 04:09 (sixteen years ago)
actually being bored in florida is kinda ridiculous.
― Kerm, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 04:16 (sixteen years ago)
it's not real nice but it's not boring.
embracing your inner-redneck is key.
― Kerm, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 04:19 (sixteen years ago)
if you don't have an outer-redneck already.
― Kerm, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 04:20 (sixteen years ago)
Where I live it's just suburb everywhere. All the neighborhoods have names, even though they don't have deed restrictions or anything like that. My brother and his wife pretty much don't go anywhere except for the huge shopping center you could see from space.
If I had some friends I'd be a lot, lot less bored. I'd go play miniature golf and who knows what else.
This weekend I banged out some collages for a Tulsa art show and started a science fiction novel, but having moved here without friends I feel there's only so much I can do without risking depression.

My old roommate in Rochester was from Melbourne and once we drove all night to get there. Another day we went to a bar in Atlanta that had 50cent drinks and I saw a guy wearing a chain mail (male? I always forget that one) hood.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 05:42 (sixteen years ago)
Also my roommates for the last 2.5 years were from pensacola and orlando and they were pretty awesome but that's probably because they left.
― tehresa, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 05:44 (sixteen years ago)
Atlanta's got my favorite still-extant record store, which has some completely generic name like that of a bad consignment store. I think it's called Things of Value. I have their card around in case I ever go back.
At least Pensacola's up in the south - southern culture, some water nearby, and real trees.
― bamcquern, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 05:48 (sixteen years ago)
Why did I think you were from Knox?
― tehresa, Wednesday, 24 June 2009 05:51 (sixteen years ago)
Because I lived there off and on for three years. I went back to Florida so I could afford school. And because of a severe bout of depression.

I feel for you.
I think I misfire with my empathy when I empathize with someone's boredom because I unconsciously assume that they're going through some profound existential thing while they're having nothing to do (because that is what I go through). Usually, though, their response is later on, "Oh, I read a book and then I went to bed."
― bamcquern, Sunday, 28 June 2009 06:20 (sixteen years ago)
yeah it was only mildly profound i read a book and i went to bed
― harbl, Sunday, 28 June 2009 11:06 (sixteen years ago)

I have boring ideas about this subject that, when expressed, devolve into insufferable didacticism.
