I hate "Bey Blades"

I hardly even know what they are, but they're everywhere. In at least two shops in Orewa there were big signs saying BEY BLADES HERE! I think they're some sort of spinning top thing, they look silly.

what is a bey anyway?

I sort of want to see the show. I bet it's really shitty.

I have to agree - Beyblades are annoying and a pure waste of time but then again, so's the animé from where they came. A whole lot of shouting, mushy dialogue and the most boring action scenes enough to make you sleep - I think theiy incorporated all those rather alluring values into the toy.

Bite Me! I gotta Beyblade!

Is the toy a spin-off (heh) of the cartoon or the other way round? My son has an actual beyblade, in fact several, plus an arena. I often battle him on it. What's annoying about them? They're a fun toy for kids. I hate the cartoon though esp. the coach guy with the whiskers
and all that stuff about 'you let your home town down and your team-mates...'

they're insanely expensive for something that is essentially a spinning top with little knives on it

My son has 4. I've purchased 2 of them and he purchased the others.
He LOVES them! They are NOT expensive! Under $7 @ Wal-Mart & KMart!!(The remote control ones are a little bit tho.) He can't play with them around his younger siblings, because of the 'fake' blades on them, but it is something he CAN do alone or with his friends! I think they are a spin-off of Yu-Gi-Oh, but WHO CARES--isn't everything??!! Better than doing DRUGS!!!

I'm listening to Yu Gi Oh spinoff David Byrne right now!

Andrew Thames (Andrew Thames), Tuesday, 26 August 2003 12:22 (twenty years ago) link

I thought Bey Blades were over and Yu-Gi-Oh was the new thing anyway.

I thought Bey Blades were totally over! They were, like, so LAST YEAR! Then there was the primary-school-kids' incarnation of dragonball z loving, then there was yu-gi-oh, whatever the hell that is, i'm out of touch because i don't get paid to hang out with little boys anymore. but back when i did, bey blades were it, and idiotic epsom-tastic parents ran around trying to find the authentic beyblades for their little kids even though you could get the lame fake (and slightly less lethal) versions for about $1 at the grey lynn festival (they were everywhere) and now, it seems, orewa?
and possibly nowhere else but orewa, and a $2 shop i went to in hamilton.

this is the longest thing i have written anywhere in ages and it's about bey blades. umm.

How can you say that beyblades and Yu-Gi-Oh are gay!!! They r the best. u guys dont no anything. Yu-Gi-Oh is a card game but beyblades are spinning tops (u cant compare them). Then again they are pretty dorky and the beyblades dont really spin for that long!
