In that group, I could pretty much never pick out my voice in the section, partially because I try my hardest to blend, partially because the group was large (I think there were 80 ppl singing "In The Beginning"?), mostly because most of the other people had better vocal technique than me and could blow the roof off if they wanted to.

I can totally hear several individual tenors though, including one of my friends; also there are a couple of times where I hear my wife in the soprano section.

I really like "River of Myriad Beauties". It reminds me of the Police in an oblique way!
guitar riff similar to verse of every little thing she does is magic!

good stuff

I enjoyed the whole EP.

Karl Malone, Tuesday, 7 February 2017 21:10 (seven years ago) link

sund4r this is impressive. shame i can't see what you're doing here. would love a video at some point

I finally got this, from Toronto from last August. I was really nervous and it's probably not my tightest performance of the piece, but I'm really happy with how the video came out.

lol i never thought of the police but i see what you mean ... jesus christ, i hope we get as big as the police. seems pretty likely.

two weeks pass...

Everything that I spent 2016 working on is coming out at once. Remixed a song that was never released in the first place (it was based off a demo, so somewhere in between a remix and a co-production):

And my new EP comes out this week (but is effectively out now because it's streaming): https://soundcloud.com/factmag/sets/chants-amethyst-dust-ep

Forces at Work sounds good. 'Clean Tramp' was kind of giving me a bit of a vibe of The Church.

I made some more horrible noise.

The record for my band that has been in motion for over a year is pretty much recorded and mixed. I went out and baptized the last CDR by running them through the tour truck riding around the country. I think it's done and am going to put in an order for Carl Saff to master it either tomorrow or Wednesday.

Just got to hope I haven't done anything too stupid on the mix that run into anything in mastering. I know with the first CD we did it actually sounded a shiteload better after coming back from mastering than going in, so knock wood that will be the case again.

Ugh so we finally got off our butts and put this song up as a video. It was filmed for about 6p 2 years ago and I guess it's... I dunno it's like a quasi-parody of black metal but it's also an anti-smoking song that we came up with after listening to wayyy too much Scott Walker. Also you can tell my bandmates don't even listen to BM at all. It was so fun to do and it's absolutely ridiculous

Another track. I'm very interested in making tracks that vocalists could potentially freestyle over, but for whatever reason I've always lacked the necessary restraint to make them minimal enough. This has a soca rhythm but sounds like it could have come out on Border Community or Kompakt https://soundcloud.com/doglatin/khaki-drop-riddim

posted this on the wrong thread -- if anyone cares!

this is cool. been listening to Plone and Broadcast recently, so not sure if that's why this reminds me of them a little bit :-)

Shat Parp (dog latin), Thursday, 2 November 2017 08:58 (six years ago) link

thanks for listening! i am really amused by the range of things we have reminded people of -- vince guaraldi's peanuts christmas, raymond scott's music for babies, B-52s, and now broadcast and a band i have never heard of. will look them up!

Plone are (were) amazing! Birmingham-based analogue synth trio. Shame they released only a small amount of material in their time

Cut this one in a living room a couple weeks ago for a buddy of mine. Don't get to record acoustic stuff very often, but I thought it turned out pretty well.

Another track. As I mentioned in another thread, the tracks on this Soundcloud are designed as backdrops and riddims that can be used by vocalists. So if any singers/MCs like what they hear and want to get in touch about a collab, I'd love to hear back https://soundcloud.com/chokice/zoopie-doopie

New track on a free comp, it's the last thing I made out of everything last year. Percussion and bells recorded to cassette, put through a Whammy pedal for the parts that sound like they're going through a Whammy pedal, and Microbrute. As n/a pointed out the synth part sounds like "Snooooooooooooooop".

Oooh.... This is nice (S-). Reminds me of some early 90s house/rave classic crossed with, yeah a little bit of Fifth Mission-era TLS. I'd normally say to put a lo EQ cut on the bass but that's what kind of makes it cool. Really wobbles my tragus when listening on headphones

I like that dl. Funny, I was cleaning out my Dropbox and came across a five year-old (!) demo with a similar vibe. Sounds better than I remember, I would try to salvage it except I ended up using the same kick drum pattern on this one.
