one year passes...

i am vaguely curious about these ampeg guitars, even though i'm not really in the market for a new guitar: http://www.ampeg.com/products/daplexi/amg100/index.html. they had them at the guitar store and they are really small and light and thin and have weird interchangeable pickups

Very close to pulling the trigger on a wine-red 2015 Gibson ES-335 Studio at a v good price. Speak now or forever hold your peace.

So I pulled the trigger.

It's basically a no-frills version of the ES-335 -- one tone knob, one volume knob, '57 classic and super classic humbuckers. The cosmetic stuff is toned down (dot inlays etc.) but I kind of like the simple look of it. Wider than average neck but I think I also like that since my fingers are a bit fat and clumsy -- I feel like I don't make as many mistakes on it. Didn't have time to do a proper setup so I'm going to get that done today and then spend a week or two with it to see if I wanna keep it for sure.

At first I thought the wine-red was too "wedding band" or something but now I think it's subtle enough to work in many settings.

There were other interesting options if I wanted to risk ordering through reverb or ebay or whatever, but I really hate buying a guitar without playing it, so I was limited to guitar stores.

I tried out a cool Hofner Verythin that I was tempted on, but the electronics/switches were just too awkward and complicated. Good sounding guitar but I'd rather have the simplicity and reliability of the gibson.

It looks like this:

Wine red is one of the best gibson finishes, imo! Congratulations.

Haven't had a real bass in close to a decade and recently splurged on this beauty:

The vegan leather is really nice, I like it more than the real leather strap I have.

For cloth, Original Fuzz straps are nice.

I love the ES-335 so fucking much. I finally played it with a band last night. It feels so good and easy to play, and it's like my playing actually finally sounds the way it does in my head.
