I will raise the bar high to start off with:

"her arp feels like making love to an angel"

Uh....

"no rosebush"
"no armor"
"oscillates her way into your dreams"
"your first rude victory is yours"

Someone is channelling Carlos "The Minimoog is the male synth and the Odyessy is the female" Santana there.

Dear god. How much do those things cost again?

Pashmina, Thursday, 13 November 2008 12:12 (fifteen years ago) link

$5000. Eek.

Pashmina, Thursday, 13 November 2008 12:14 (fifteen years ago) link

(xposted) NSFW probably:
http://www.metasonix.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=36

Expected retail price is US $ 5000.

Which basically means that they've sold one to Trent Reznor, and probably not many others.

The graphics on that thing are gross.

I mean, who the fuck would want to look at that everytime they wanted to play guitar?

There was an interview somewhere online with the guy from metasonix laughing about how ridiculous that thing is and joking about he's charging way more than its worth but selling them anyway.

Rotgutt, Saturday, 15 November 2008 15:48 (fifteen years ago) link

There was a website somewhere with pictures of the inside, and the case is more or less full. 23 tubes and a lot of support circuitry, all hand built. So I can believe that it costs a fair portion of $5000 to make. Whether or not the sound it produces is worth that is another matter.

23 tubes, sounds like 5 Gs for some major repair hassle down the road. Well with my luck anyway!

And they're mostly weird hard to find tubes as well, not standard guitar amp tubes. But any servicing/repair is probably going to have to be done by Metasonix anyway.
What I don't understand is how it's any better than simply getting a bunch of cheap distortion pedals and chaining them together. People will say "but it's tubes, do you see?", but with that amount of distortion I don't think the difference is audible.

Yeah, agreed. I've had way cooler results like, chaining up a ratty fuzz pedal with a nano bassballs and waving my guitar around while it feeds back and stuff. Or whatever.

^^^ that's another thing, all the online demos I've seen of this thing are rubbish. "Listen to how messed up the signal sounds" Just sounds like someone overdriving the input on a broken amp to me.
