sorta the sister thread to this one: daer geetar players - have you ever played an Eastwood guitar?

ive gotten bored again and need to add another guitar line here at the store, and reverend looks like it might be the right fit (already added danelectro and hagstrom since that last thread). Anybody have any thoughts, or wanna peruse the line and see what you think looks cool?

haven't looked at the reverend line in years--they seem to have gotten a little bit away from that weird shape they used to use a lot. iirc they were doing something weird with body material as well? seems to no longer be happening.

i always thought they were good looking guitars, but there was no dealer around here in the early aughts when i would have cared more.

ah here is my answer:

Do the new guitars sound like the discontinued Phenolic guitars?
The new guitars use the same Reverend pickups and have the lively, responsive Reverend tone. The discontinued Phenolic composite body produces less midrange and more lows and highs. The wood construction of the new bodies produce a more traditional tone with more midrange focus and clarity, and a rounder, warmer treble response.

yeah they are all korina now iirc, which is kind of a cool body wood, tonewise. mahoganyish but not heavy as hell.

meant to do this in the first place http://www.reverendguitars.com/

yeah i was thinking while browsing the site that i don't recall seeing such a korina-centric lineup anywhere. something nice and different i guess.

how are you liking hagstrom btw? i got one of their cheap semi-hollows and was reasonably impressed by the quality. i learned that i don't really like semi-hollows but my buddy has it on long-term loan and has been using it to great effect.

There's a bass called 'Justice', what's not to like.

call all destroyer, Friday, 30 September 2011 20:15 (twelve years ago) link

right now mainly looking at catalinbread and subdecay

guh (jjjusten), Friday, 30 September 2011 20:17 (twelve years ago) link

i assume that the amount of pedal lines, like microorganisms, has increased exponentially since i stopped playing electric

oh yeah dude, its insane

guh (jjjusten), Friday, 30 September 2011 20:18 (twelve years ago) link

ok, first half showed up, theyre awesome - the manta ray 290 is fucking rawk city in particular, thundergun is superbass bowelshaking good. double agent, sensei and flatroc are all pretty great too

guh (jjjusten), Wednesday, 5 October 2011 18:55 (twelve years ago) link

dope- is that manta ray body about the same as a 335?

natlawdp, Thursday, 6 October 2011 15:29 (twelve years ago) link

upper horn and shoulders are about the same, but the belly is def smaller - also its a flat top and back instead of an arch, so it feels smaller there too.

oh sweet. always thought these guitars at least looked cool. fyi i may show up with a caliper and tape measure to play/measure some guitars. cuz i have done zero planning for builds at school. (also fyi if you have any parts around i'd probably buy them)

Says Meshell:

"its been a while since an instrument has excited me, so I wanted to say thank you! The bass is so nice in the hand and the sound quality is taking me in a new direction and that's what I look for as a bassist... I never think of my self as a bassist going for chops and such, I have always wanted to be a creator of sound, this bass is really aiding in a new adventure".

I love that they had the nerve/wit to call that model 'Decision'!

the groove is obvious, but her touch is a thing of beauty; 'the world has made me...' album has fantastic dynamics.

one year passes...

This is a trick question. I've never had any guitars.

Any thoughts specifically on the Reverend Warhawk? I was at the guitar store today messing around with all the Reverends they had and that was the one that was most attractive to me.

I dig the warhawk! but i like pretty much all of them, so it's hard for me really to say more than that. was it the current non reverse headstock bigsby loaded one, or an older model?

Yeah the one with the Bigsby. It felt pleasantly compact and solid.
