Have you ever eaten a freezer-burnt Lean Pocket?

Because the other day I put on my Ove Glove and proceeded to heat up six Lean Pockets in a conventional oven. And the frost began dripping down onto the heating coils. And the whole room began to get hot. And sweat began to drip from my forehead and pool around the hollow of my neck. The atmosphere was electric; erotic, even. You just can't get that with a microwave, or a toaster oven, or a hot plate, or a heating coil fashioned from interlinked stale paper clips. By the end of the afternoon, my face was moist, my paper plates stained with Lean Pockets guts and and juice, my frozen convenience foods-oriented libido quavering and insistent, my rotary telephone ringing off the hook in a manner of speaking

Blessed Woman Scientist

It was one spring day in May last year.

That day was the unforgettable one for Jang Hye Yong, section chief of the chemical engineering institute under Hamhung University of Chemical Engineering.

During his on-the-spot guidance at the university the leader Kim Jong Il posed for a photograph with meritorious lecturers. At that time he recognized Jang Hye Yong and called her to his side.

Warmly shaking her by the hand, he said in delight that she was the woman scientist whom he had met in the Yonggwang Youth Fish Farm.

Wondering how he could remember an ordinary woman scientist whom he had met nearly 10 years ago, she could not hold back her excitement.

In September 2001 he met her for the first time.

During his visit to the newly built Yonggwang Youth Fish Farm he met her who was studying fish food.

He highly appreciated her small success in research. He repeatedly praised her, saying that she was doing a laudable thing and it was good for her to have buckled down to solving the problem of fish food in our own way.

He encouraged her, saying that she should further deepen her research and complete it.

At once he recognized her whom he had met on the road of his field guidance. She had an honour to pose for a photograph next to Kim Jong Il.

With a firm determination to repay his benevolence with good results in research she made great successes which are of great significance in developing fish farming of the country. She made a fish food of high nutritive value with various plants abundant in the country for the past ten years.

The food which she researched increased the weight of fish by over 20 percent.

She wrote some reference books including, “Industrial microbiology,” “Lactobacilli and their application” and “Food additives made of Koryo medicine” which would be helpful in the research of fish food. She also made over 10 inventions and contrivances.

She obtained a doctorate in 2005 and the title of associate professor in 2007 for her contribution to the development of fish farming.

She still works hard in her institute and fish farms to complete the study of a more profitable fish food.
