Well, it's no Donnie Darko, which is in Brick's favor: Darko just spun around and around, and its pseudo-physics bullshit never made any sense. My hipster friends seemed to like it more for its soundtrack. Of course, they still scoffed in disbelief whenever anyone said they didn't it. All the same, the dialogue in Brick is Mamet-lite and never rises above its obviously stylized stiltedness. It's been a while since I saw it though - I didn't think it was a disaster, or even bad - I'm just rather indifferent. I agree with the original post - it's at least exciting to see someone try something new with the genre. Even if, at times, it seems contrived.
