of the ones i own, the herzog/kinski box on anchor bay is my favorite. nothing in the way of extras, but it's a lot of great films in one place. criterion box sets are pretty much all great - the truffaut/antoine doinel one is a favorite, but of course the quality of the films kind of tapers off as you work away from 400 blows. lots of good extras, though (including amazing 400 blows screen tests). the bergman trilogy is excellent. the dekalogue box from facets... i pray that someday i'll be able to afford that monster buster keaton box.

in terms of dream box sets, i think it would be amazing if someone were able to gather the terrence malik films together and toss in a bunch of interviews and extras. some kind of cassavettes set. i could go on and on...

Alien Quadrilogy
The Entire Bond set

These'll all keep you going.

A Less Obvious Billy Wilder box set would make me happy, as would a James Cagney box set, especially one with the Public Enemy, the Roaring Twenties, and Angels With Dirty Faces in it.

Wilder seconded. It would be cool if there was a box collecting all six of his directoral efforts from the 40s, since only one (The Lost Weekend) is widely available on DVD (Double Indemnity is oop).

double indemnity is coming out on universal dvd july 6, fyi. it looks like it may be barebones though, which is lame.

Well, it was barebones before though. But thanks for the heads-up.
