The Dream of Cities
F. F. Myerberg
October 1965. 521 pages

Dr. Myerberg, a Holocaust survivor and noted weight lifter, committed suicide in the winter of 1964, leaving behind this enigmatic treatise on urban planning. Although incomplete and written in what one critic has called "an impenetrable, improbably poetic style," The Dream of Cities provides an interesting counterpoint to the work of his contemporary, Jane Jacobs, in its advocacy for rigid divisions between commercial, residential and geschlechtlich neighborhoods. Though Myerberg published dozens of books on urban planning in the United States during the 1950s and 1960s (and was instrumental in the planning of downtown Des Moines, Iowa), it is for The Dream of Cities that he is chiefly remembered.

My Life: Volume I
Franklin Dressington-Maxwell, ed. Gemma Doyle
Nov 2008. 1276 pages.
These memoirs, recently uncovered by Dressington-Maxwell's grand-daughter Gemma Doyle, are thought to date to 1934, when the legendary eccentric locked himself in his Long Island estate and sought a divorce from his wife, Margaret. Doyle, an Egyptologist at Brown University, writes that "the memoirs, balanced as they are between my grandfather's memories of his aristocratic upbringing and his elaborate dream world, serve as equal parts social study and fantastical folk art."

Volume II, edited by Dr. Doyle, is forthcoming from Waindell College Press.
