Casey Kotchman's low line drive hit Pettitte near his left ankle, the one the left-hander pushes off with. Pettitte took a step toward the ball near the third base line before gently dropping to the infield grass.

I'm missing the forest for the trees--how does this team have the best record in baseball? I sincerely don't get it. They're fourth in runs scored in the AL, fourth in runs given up. Cano's one of the best players in the game; Jeter, after a strong start, is back to a fairly punchless .300. Most everyone else is at or below career norms offensively. They've hit a lot of home runs, but again, three other AL teams have scored more runs. Their starters give up a hit per inning (good K/BB ratio, though). Soriano's been good, but not as good as his E.R.A. I see a .550 team, maybe. I can't see .600+ in a very tough division

Fans at Safeco Field gave Ichiro a 45-second standing ovation when he came to bat with one out in the third inning. He doffed his helmet and bowed twice to the crowd before hitting a single and stealing second base.

According to High Heat Stats, the Yankees are the first team since the A's of the late '20s to have three players on their roster with 2500+ hits. Between the '39 Pirates (Waner, Manush) and '73 Angels (Robinson, Pinson), no team ever had more than one; since then, a number of teams have had two.

It'd be neat if they had a shot at three 3,000-hit guys, but Ichiro's chances must be edging toward 0%.

Trampoline inspections every 3 weeks.
I didn't know about this:
When he broke George Sisler’s single-season record for hits, in 2004, the Hall of Fame presented Suzuki with a replica model of Sisler’s bat: all 36 inches and 46 ounces of it. Suzuki felt a kinship with Sisler, who set his record in 1920, and visited his grave site in St. Louis before the All-Star Game in 2009.
The next year, before a series at Yankee Stadium, Suzuki visited Calvary Cemetery in Queens to see the grave of another Hall of Famer, Wee Willie Keeler. Suzuki had broken Keeler’s record of seven consecutive 200-hit seasons, which had stood for more than century.
