3 weeks+ for d'Arnaud

Mets' other 10-3 starts were 1986 and 2006.

Cameron on FG: The Mets haven’t played well enough that we should dramatically alter our expectations of what they’re going to do going forward, but now, .500 ball for 24 weeks gets you an 85 win finish. And while 85 wins probably doesn’t get you the Wild Card, that’s the mean forecast out of a range of expected outcomes, and it doesn’t take very many things going New York’s way before that 85 turns into 88 or 89.

This Braves-Mets series could conceivably be some good baseball.

Dillon Gee has made 48 straight starts of at least five innings dating to May 2013, the longest active streak in the majors. The team record is 50 by Dwight Gooden.

the positive tone crossed w/ a cautiousness bordering on a wait for the other shoe to drop is a clear tend in mets pieces of late

shoes (ie players) are dropping, still winning so far

the increasing costive borborygmi (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 April 2015 18:12 (nine years ago) link

true, plus most of those injuries don't seem catastrophic

slothroprhymes, Wednesday, 22 April 2015 18:20 (nine years ago) link

plz don't... classic Mets injury goes from 'day-to-day' in April to the entire year

JM Jr batting first tnite, weather permitting

@AdamRubinESPN
Terry Collins explains leadoff role for John Mayberry Jr. in part by citing 5-for-11, 3 doubles, 1 HR in career vs. Eric Stults.

Fun fact of the day: This year, the Mets will pay Matt Harvey and Jacob deGrom a combined $1,171,000. This year, the Mets will pay Bobby Bonilla $1,193,248.

Ha!

the increasing costive borborygmi (Dr Morbius), Thursday, 23 April 2015 20:48 (nine years ago) link

Nah this is exciting.

Which is the most hated franchise by Mets fans? Braves, Phillies or Yankees?

Van Horn Street, Friday, 24 April 2015 04:34 (nine years ago) link

not as much reason to hate Atl w/ their autumn chokes and absence of Larry.

the increasing costive borborygmi (Dr Morbius), Friday, 24 April 2015 04:52 (nine years ago) link

So the Phillies then?

Van Horn Street, Friday, 24 April 2015 04:56 (nine years ago) link

we don't hate them now so much as delight in their misery

the increasing costive borborygmi (Dr Morbius), Friday, 24 April 2015 04:58 (nine years ago) link

have the mets and phillies ever been good at the same time?

between th 80s and '06 maybe throw the cardinals in there too

mookieproof, Friday, 24 April 2015 05:10 (nine years ago) link

oh yeah major Cards hate '85-89

Mets and Phils weren't good at the same time until the last years of Shea (thx for reminding me)

BACK to the present... did you see Bartolo's 1U pickoff today?

the increasing costive borborygmi (Dr Morbius), Friday, 24 April 2015 05:13 (nine years ago) link

Cubs and Mets used to not like each other at times when they were both in the east. I know they had a couple brawls back in the day. I remember Jody Davis hitting 2 HRs against Doc Gooden in Chicago and then I don't think Doc ever lost to them again.

earlnash, Saturday, 25 April 2015 00:58 (nine years ago) link

i love hearing from the Mets booth during interleague, not that I have much of a choice. wonder what the max number of 1986 references they have made in one evening.

The last time the Mets had lost 1-0 on consecutive days was Sept. 4-5, 1990, at St. Louis and Pittsburgh, STATS said. The previous team to defeat New York 1-0 on back-to-back days was the Chicago Cubs in April 1973 at Shea Stadium. Ferguson Jenkins beat Tom Seaver in the opener in a matchup of future Hall of Famers.

Nats/Expos had never won consecutive 1-0 games before.

Bartolo is just a head-shaking spectacle of ease and mastery. Though Familia yielding a leadoff HR to Machado in the 9th gave me Armando Benitez flashbacks...

In the Mets program I learned that the 3 all-timers Kirk Nieuwenhuis would invite to dinner are CS Lewis, Churchill, and George W Bush.

via espn.com:

Colon became the first pitcher in at least 100 years to defeat the same opponent with seven different teams...

Colon has defeated the O's while pitching for Cleveland, the White Sox, the Angels, Boston, the Yankees, Oakland and the Mets.

STATS said its research dating to 1914 shows no other pitcher who has topped the same opponent with seven different clubs. Dan Haren, David Wells and Hall of Fame spitballer Burleigh Grimes were among the seven to beat a team six ways.
