The outcome seems to prove that he was not ready in every way.
I wonder when a first-place team last started the season 10-21 on the road.

xp the cliche is that the biggest gap between minor league levels is from high-a to double-a, but it seems more or less true. at the lower levels you can get by on sheer talent, but at a certain point you also need to have an 'approach', i.e. a more detailed plan than just throw hard or see ball/hit ball. triple-a veterans lack the tools, but they know what they're doing, and akeel morris has never consistently faced a lineup that knew what it was doing.
players at high-a just aren't that good. in 2012 the st. lucie mets were the best team in the florida state league; three years later the regulars who have gone on to the most success are daniel muno and wilmer flores (who was really young for that level then).
despite this being morris' sixth pro year (at age 22!), he's only thrown 248 innings. he's always been hard to hit, but only last year established decent command. his highest-level experience is this year in the fsl, which is the most pitcher-friendly minor league.
his stuff -- a low-to-mid-90s fastball and a good changeup -- is good enough to baffle low minor leaguers, but he can neither blow his fastball past the highest-scoring team in the majors nor fool it with his change.
the mets needed an arm and since he was headed north anyway (he's now at double-a binghamton) maybe they were all what the hell. and they were losing that game anyway iirc. but it seems a case of throwing a dude in the deep end well before he can swim, and we'll see how he bounces back.
there might be others, but the only dude i remember recently basically jumping straight from a-ball to the majors (albeit with an offseason inbetween) is jose fernandez.

Harvey better go the full 9, bcz i can't imagine the Metsies scoring before then.
i guess no one has ever directly explained the predictive worthlessness of "9-for-18" close & late SSS clutchiness to Keith. God i wish he would stfu about them.

The truth of the 2015 Mets probably lies somewhere north of the 68-win pace they’ve operated at since April 24, but I don’t see holding them to the standard of their record over slightly more than a third of the current season as somehow unfair. This is the team that’s going out and playing the games that count. In a parallel universe in which all variables are delightfully controlled, nobody vital has been injured, everybody worthwhile has been inked to sub-market contracts and distant potential has translated into immediately pleasing reality, the Mets are probably kicking Atlanta ass and taking Washington names.
In this one, they’ve scored 13 runs in their past 66 innings and looked like rank amateurs for the better part of a week.

weird how they always paint it like bonilla pulled some crazy trick on the poor unsuspecting mets... like i thought they couldn't afford to pay him, so they worked out a plan where he would defer the payments and basically get the $ + standard interest later?

wasnt it too that the mets were getting a steady 12% from madoff @ the time so were putting as much toward that as possible? like it wasn't an unwise business decision iirc

J.D. (PA)Keith, Conforto continues to hit AA pitching. I'm actually in favor of getting him some ABs while Cuddyer rests up, but at the very least he should be in AAA, right? I've never understood the Mets handling of him.
Klaw (1:11 PM)I don't understand the Mets' handling of their prospects overall. It seems like they're horribly slow to promote hitters - Dom Smith should probably be in AA, Conforto should have started in AA and be in AAA or the majors by now.
― skateboards are the new combover (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 7 July 2015 21:39 (eight years ago) link
dom smith didn't start hitting at all until june and still has only two homers (as a first baseman) in 70 games. and he just turned 20 last month.
conforto should have started full-season ball last summer rather than going to brooklyn, but at least they did jump him to high-a this spring. considering their struggles offensively, and cuddyer's injury, and conforto's performance in double-a, it does seem like they should be giving him a gallo-like shot. (i'm not sure that playing triple-a in a place like vegas would prepare him much for the majors)

Las Vegas 51s @LasVegas51s@Mets where's Nieuwenhuis in the lineup today? 51s lit up Peavey in LV last week. Capt Kirk hit two HRs off Jake in his last rehab start.
