Cardinal pitching and cluster luck
Cardinals pitchers have a collective 81.5 percent left-on-base percentage, a rate that hasn’t been seen since — well, ever, actually.

you and your bloody worst cases
at least it appears that, should they make it, the Mets will get the West winner in the division series, while the Central battles itself.

it would add a new, professional wrestling-like layer of excitement to the playoffs if the top-seeded team in each league could choose their opponent in the first round

as the kids say, it is what it is
i just hope there isn't a situation like last year in which the pirates are unlikely to catch the cards but it's still vaguely possible on the final weekend, so they use cole and end up with jeff locke facing arrieta in the wild card game
(the cubs *would* go with arrieta over lester, right, despite the big contract?)
― mookieproof, Thursday, 27 August 2015 18:40 (nine years ago) link
or vice versa -- the cubs could easily pass the pirates
― mookieproof, Thursday, 27 August 2015 18:44 (nine years ago) link
it's going to be a really interesting chase. seems like every time i check the score the pirates/cubs have won AGAIN (and sure it feels the same for you!)

fun fact from ozzie's inning in the booth in the midst of an otherwise dreadful beatdown: he has a 4 handicap in golf! that's pretty amazing, but if anyone could pick up golf after retirement and get that good, it would be him. i can imagine his dexterity just transferring over to club control

so grichuk is playing center despite a messed-up shoulder because they 'want his bat in the lineup'
first inning he runs down a rizzo hit in the gap, has to flip to heyward to throw the ball back in

players that are above Bourjos in the CF depth chart, according to Mike Matheny
- early season Jon Jay with a bum wrist who can't hit and has a ISO around .050- randal grichuk (admittedly this turned out reaaaaally well while he was healthy)- tommy pham- recent Jon Jay with a bum wrist- randal grichuk with an arm in a sling
