Good thinking by Ausmus to leave Castellanos on the bench and have McCann (.108/.175/.108) hit with the tying run on base.

Andy K, Thursday, 12 May 2016 01:52 (eight years ago) link

sort of creeped out by that pair of disembodied legs i thought was a pause sign at first

qualx, Thursday, 12 May 2016 01:55 (eight years ago) link

i wonder how much him being with the tigers until 2014 had to with it

Van Horn Street, Thursday, 12 May 2016 01:58 (eight years ago) link

@BNightengale
And to think the #Dbacks actually traded away Max Scherzer to #tigers, convinced that he would break down. Oops

Andy K, Thursday, 12 May 2016 02:00 (eight years ago) link

Only three "Whoa!!!!"s from William Ladson this evening. He must be feeling under the weather.

Andy K, Thursday, 12 May 2016 02:01 (eight years ago) link

@pedromoura
Max Scherzer had more strikeouts tonight than Jered Weaver has in 2016.

from the comments section on fangraphs:

Brad Ausmus has been involved in three of the five 20K games. He struck out twice against Kerry Wood in 1998, he struck out once (and got a hit) against Roger Clemens in 1996, and now he managed the Tigers against Max Scherzer.

thor wants some attention, decides to hit two homers against kenta maeda

qualx, Thursday, 12 May 2016 04:16 (eight years ago) link

No walks in all four 20-K games.

clemenza, Thursday, 12 May 2016 04:16 (eight years ago) link

didn't realise that last year's no-hitter vs the mets was the game with the most strikeouts for two teams in a 9 innings game: 35.

Major League Baseball has suspended Colorado Rockies shortstop Jose Reyes without pay through May 31 for violating its domestic violence policy, the league announced Friday.

Reyes will not appeal. The suspension is retroactive to Feb. 23, when Reyes was first put on paid leave by the league. Through Thursday, he had missed 34 games.

interesting statistical thing i stumbled upon: jose altuve has stolen 15/16 bases in 41 games, but has rated a below average baserunner on FG and just 1 run above average on bbref

ST. LOUIS -- They have determination, they have grit.

Martinez finally found a rhythm and managed to get through five innings.

Arrieta's game score, 40, was his lowest in more than a year. That, perhaps, is something to feel good about even if an eight-game deficit in the division standings isn't.

One fateful inning did in Martinez, much as it had Wacha the night before. Martinez worked a good inning before it and three good innings after it. In the second, the Cubs hit line drives all over the field.

Martinez puffed up with pride a bit when describing how he was able to regroup and stay in the game without a long reliever available.

nomar, Thursday, 26 May 2016 17:08 (eight years ago) link

They must avoid fateful innings and focus on making statements.

Andy K, Thursday, 26 May 2016 17:16 (eight years ago) link

martinez was ace-like except for that inning where he gave up six runs. arrieta meanwhile is basically trash.

nomar, Thursday, 26 May 2016 17:18 (eight years ago) link

dan uggla had a 33 game hitting streak in 2011. just wanted to mention that.

I look forward to hearing from you shortly, (Karl Malone), Friday, 27 May 2016 01:13 (eight years ago) link

and he ended up with a .233 average. how did that even happen?
