tyler chatwood to the cubs, 3 years/$38m
― mookieproof, Thursday, 7 December 2017 18:29 (six years ago) link
:/ i guess they need a replacement for lackey but a three-year contract feels unnecessary
― na (NA), Thursday, 7 December 2017 18:42 (six years ago) link
i don't know much about chatwood but 3 years was in line with what dave cameron predicted, at least. but yeah, tough to get excited about. still, he'll only be 28 next year, he'll probably earn his contract value and then some
― Karl Malone, Thursday, 7 December 2017 18:50 (six years ago) link
The good on Tyler Chatwood:- Will be just 28 next year- Career 55% GB rate in front of that great Cubs infield- The upside of playing in a normal stadiumThe not-as-good:- Durability: Never made more than 27 starts or thrown 160 innings.- Control is iffy: Career BB/9 4.2.— Jeff Passan (@JeffPassan) December 7, 2017

mariners have acquired dee gordon; no idea where he's supposed to play
― mookieproof, Thursday, 7 December 2017 22:04 (six years ago) link
outfield, apparently
mariners also got $1m in international bonus money . . . but it doesn't really sound like that's the sort of thing that would sway ohtani if he's set on a different team

Richards looked good last year when he got back from his injury. Never saw Bridwell pitch but he had good numbers. Skaggs, Heaney, and Shoemaker are all better than their 2017 numbers imo

Stanton had a killer year, but I don't think I would want that contract especially considering he has been injury prone. I also remember watching the Marlins play the Reds a few years ago and the dude seemed to be bored in the outfield and played into like three errors in a series. Kinda soured me on Stanton being all that in my eye.
I'd say this would take the Yanks out of being able to go big after Bryce Harper and really which of those two guys would you rather have for a decade? I'd bet on Harper myself. And this move probably means Harper could end up on the Red Sox.

centuries from now scientists will come to discover that the sixth extinction was inadvertently caused by an Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton high-five— Jeff Sullivan (@based_ball) December 9, 2017
― ice cream social justice (Dr Morbius), Saturday, 9 December 2017 15:50 (six years ago) link
Harper has been injury prone too!
The marketing possibilities for Judge and Stanton as the 21st century Bash Brothers are limitless, that should pay for Stanton's contract by itself.
I'm seriously starting to believe in the Jeter collusion theory though.
