what a Grisham thriller in RF

Who is this Buckner dude in RF anyways? I’ve honestly not noticed him before.

Time to open my Pilsner.
― FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 02:59 (four years ago) link
And Buckner died this year...resurrected!
― clemenza, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:00 (four years ago) link
No regrets going with Hader there obviously but his location was awful. Sliders not even close and high fastballs like a foot off.
― frogbs, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:01 (four years ago) link
and just like buckner, the game had already busted wide open by the time it happened. feel bad for grisham

Again: wow.

sorry frogbs and all Brewers fans, that musta hurt
― a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:07 (four years ago) link
Idk about “wide open”. Hader needed one more out to get to the 9th with a 2 run lead.
― frogbs, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:07 (four years ago) link
i was waiting for soto running into that third out to matter
― mookieproof, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:08 (four years ago) link
I'm just shocked. How could you miss that ball?
― Bee OK, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:09 (four years ago) link
But yeah that all happened so fast. Haders been really good lately but he just didn’t have it. Oh well. Go beat the dodgers

i mean grisham's error. without it, most likely 2 runners still would have scored, the momentum would be completely shifted, and there'd still be runners on 1st and 3rd with 2 outs. but yeah, not "wide open".

Soto is built like a brick house.
― Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:22 (four years ago) link
I said this in my preview but I really feel for Dave Martinez. Imagine having a one-game playoff to win and being second-guessed for starting a rested Max Scherzer.— Michael Baumann (@MichaelBaumann) October 2, 2019

i'll steal what I just saw:
hey, they're NOT better w/out Yelich
― a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:34 (four years ago) link
another dimension of the grisham error is that it reminds you that yelich should have been playing RF
― It is my great honor to post on this messageboard! (Karl Malone), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:42 (four years ago) link
yes. was my 2nd thought once i was done with "wow".
― FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 03:47 (four years ago) link
scherzer had a 5.16 ERA in september, allowing six homers in 29.2 IP. so yeah
but if there *are* any managers with the confidence to have gone with strasburg, i don't think dave martinez is among them. tbh it may not have even been up to him

Hader threw 30 pitches last night, 14 strikes. Per MLB Network research, it was only the third appearance of his career, regular season or postseason, in which he had more balls than strikes.— Ken Rosenthal (@Ken_Rosenthal) October 2, 2019
― Andy K, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 13:22 (four years ago) link
he gets a ton of swings & misses on that high fastball but not if you're throwing it a foot over the strike zone
for what its worth the ump seemed to be very pitcher friendly. was pretty confident going into the 8th, Hader with a wide strike zone should've been lights out
― frogbs, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 13:35 (four years ago) link
I’m still im awe of Strasburg’s 94 mph fastball to get Braun to ground out.

― a Mets fan who gave up on everything in the mid '80s (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 16:24 (four years ago) link
Strasburg was insanely good in his 3 innings. He threw a number of pitches where the batter would twist outward, thinking the pitch might hit them, only to have it dive right into the strike zone.
― frogbs, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 17:12 (four years ago) link
i need a gif of soto's reaction to hader's second (way outside) pitch, which culminated in this

gotta say its nice that basically nobody is holding a grudge against Grisham for this, which is not how it would go down in a lot of bigger markets
― frogbs, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 18:41 (four years ago) link
I’m to understand he’s normally a pretty good outfielder?
― FRAUDULENT STEAKS (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Wednesday, 2 October 2019 18:44 (four years ago) link
he's only played 51 games but yeah he was pretty good
― frogbs, Wednesday, 2 October 2019 18:47 (four years ago) link
Seemed like a very level-headed guy in the post-game interview clip I saw. My jokes last night aside, I felt genuinely bad for him; nice that Yelich spoke up about his role down the stretch.
