Duncan in LF in Boston makes a ton of sense, and he can also play 1B, and they got him for nothing.

bnw, Friday, 24 July 2009 16:36 (fourteen years ago) link

I loved draft day a couple years ago when Wallace was picked and the only thing people talked about was how huge his ass was.

mayor jingleberries, Friday, 24 July 2009 16:37 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah they shoulda tried his fat ass at third over joe thurston at least once.....

bnw, Friday, 24 July 2009 16:39 (fourteen years ago) link

bnw: ankiel is what now?

(*゚ー゚)θ L(。・_・) °~ヾ(・ε・ *) (Steve Shasta), Friday, 24 July 2009 16:45 (fourteen years ago) link

(*゚ー゚)θ L(。・_・) °~ヾ(・ε・ *) (Steve Shasta), Friday, 24 July 2009 16:52 (fourteen years ago) link

his two homers in the past two months have been against the royals and the nats. big time!!

birthday lex (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 July 2009 17:08 (fourteen years ago) link

All the A's fans who bitched incessantly about drafting Weeks over Wallace should shut up now thankfully.

He was only 21 years old when he 16 (Alex in SF), Friday, 24 July 2009 17:09 (fourteen years ago) link

weeks is so dope imo

birthday lex (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 July 2009 17:11 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah I never got the complaint. Wallace is pretty awesome, but he's a weak defense 3B or a 1B. Weeks has the potential to be an all star 2B. You draft for that potential.

He was only 21 years old when he 16 (Alex in SF), Friday, 24 July 2009 17:20 (fourteen years ago) link

Sounds like the Phillies are going to get Halladay.

Ugh, ugh, etc.

Stacey Pollen (Andy K), Friday, 24 July 2009 20:06 (fourteen years ago) link

their GM should've been fired had he not gotten him

highway to sarahel (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 July 2009 20:07 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah they had to do it.

call all destroyer, Friday, 24 July 2009 20:09 (fourteen years ago) link

if they ended up facing the giants in the first round and losing because they had jamie moyer throwing against matt cain in a deciding game he would've looked pretty fucking dumb for protecting kyle drabek (or whoever)

highway to sarahel (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 July 2009 20:11 (fourteen years ago) link

i mean imagine if the red sox had deemed hanley ramirez "untouchable" - sometimes you just gotta let em go (especially when your farm system is so stacked)

highway to sarahel (J0rdan S.), Friday, 24 July 2009 20:12 (fourteen years ago) link

you know theo tried really, really, really hard to get him back right?

(*゚ー゚)θ L(。・_・) °~ヾ(・ε・ *) (Steve Shasta), Friday, 24 July 2009 20:32 (fourteen years ago) link

common wisdom is that the hanley trade occurred during theo's resignation and he was opposed to it.

call all destroyer, Friday, 24 July 2009 20:34 (fourteen years ago) link

oh and if by "really, really, really hard" you mean "made a routine phone call and the story was blown up by the media" then yes

call all destroyer, Friday, 24 July 2009 20:35 (fourteen years ago) link

i heard like twenty dudes on tv and radio say that now pujols finally has the "protection" he needs, which is just the dumbest shit ever, as if pitchers will suddenly start giving pujols better pitches to hit because they're hoping to avoid facing matt holliday.

"he said...all things passantino the night" (omar little), Saturday, 25 July 2009 08:02 (fourteen years ago) link

welp if theres a team that needs more outfielders it's the cards

btw i think jor-sar was saiyen that it's a good thing the sawks DIDNT consider hanram untouchable, which i tebnd 2agree w/~

the shitbirdification of america's youth (cankles), Saturday, 25 July 2009 08:26 (fourteen years ago) link

xpost

haha yeah all these guys are talking about Pujols being intentionally walked 35 times this year, as if things are somehow going to be different with Holliday (y'know, because nobody would dream of IBB'ing Pujols to pitch to Holliday instead).

NoTimeBeforeTime, Saturday, 25 July 2009 12:42 (fourteen years ago) link

haram hanram

max, Saturday, 25 July 2009 13:02 (fourteen years ago) link

there's a weird implication in that theory that "yeah now albert will finally be able to start doing some damage!" imo protection only works if it's the reverse, the great hitter placed behind the much lesser one, but even then idk how much it comes into play.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9851692/Sources:-Angels-intensify-bid-in-Halladay-chase

the Jays countered the Angels offer by asking for a four player package that included Joe Saunders, Brandon Wood, Erick Aybar, and one prospect from the group of Trevor Reckling, Peter Bourjos, and Sean O'Sullivan.

If I'm running the Angels, I'd do this deal.

http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/9854894/Sources:-Dodgers-in-talks-to-get-Indians%27-Lee

Top club officials from both teams strongly denied a FOXSports.com report saying that the teams were in serious discussions about a blockbuster that would send left-hander Cliff Lee and catcher Victor Martinez to Los Angeles for first baseman James Loney, one of the Dodgers' young rotation members and prospects.

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 July 2009 00:17 (fourteen years ago) link

"young rotation member" obv being billingsley as the dodgers won't even include kershaw in a deal for halladay

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 July 2009 00:17 (fourteen years ago) link

can i just reiterate one more time that if the phillies balk on halladay they are insane

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 July 2009 00:19 (fourteen years ago) link

i wonder how bill "chad billingsley may be the best pitcher in the game" plaschke would feel about such a trade.

omar little, Monday, 27 July 2009 00:53 (fourteen years ago) link

What are the Dodgers even going to do with Martinez? Isn't Martin still their catcher?

He was only 21 years old when he 16 (Alex in SF), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:15 (fourteen years ago) link

first base if they trade loney surely?

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:17 (fourteen years ago) link

here's a huge rundown of all deadline things basically

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:18 (fourteen years ago) link

The Jays told the Rangers they would want left-hander Derek Holland, first baseman Justin Smoak and "two other top guys."

they're never gonna trade him if they're demanding packages like this

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:27 (fourteen years ago) link

to be fair ricardi has acknowledged this and because of it has basically said that he doesn't expect halladay will be traded

a narwhal done gored my sister nell (cankles), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:48 (fourteen years ago) link

personally i think they should unload him - at this point i'm sure most of the fanbase has made peace with it and they really should get something for him because they likely aren't going to make the playoffs and then he's gone

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:49 (fourteen years ago) link

isnt he signed on for another year after this one?

a narwhal done gored my sister nell (cankles), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:54 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i meant they aren't going to make the playoffs next year either
