personally i think they should unload him - at this point i'm sure most of the fanbase has made peace with it and they really should get something for him because they likely aren't going to make the playoffs and then he's gone

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:49 (fourteen years ago) link

isnt he signed on for another year after this one?

a narwhal done gored my sister nell (cankles), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:54 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i meant they aren't going to make the playoffs next year either

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:55 (fourteen years ago) link

lol welp

cant argue w/that tbqh

a narwhal done gored my sister nell (cankles), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:56 (fourteen years ago) link

i agree w/u completely that philly is completely retarded if they dont make this happen btw

a narwhal done gored my sister nell (cankles), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:56 (fourteen years ago) link

if they got halladay with that lineup they would honestly mow down every team including the dodgers imo who secretly can't score runs - like this weekend they absolutely murdered the cardinals in 2 out of 3 games and the cards probably have the second or third best lineup in the majors at this point (granted they saw the back end of the cards rotation but even still that lineup is just insane)

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 July 2009 04:59 (fourteen years ago) link

i still have to think philly is gonna do it. jays wanted happ, drabek, brown, philly countered w/happ plus a couple random dudes. plenty of room in the middle there.

call all destroyer, Monday, 27 July 2009 13:16 (fourteen years ago) link

heard that this morning and my first thought was that it was close enough that it could happen soon.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Monday, 27 July 2009 13:32 (fourteen years ago) link

If they're just going to play Martinez at 1b, he doesn't seem like that big of an upgrade on Loney.

Also, Cliff Lee is great and everything, but what makes him more tested than Billingsley or Kershaw? He has no playoff experience.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Monday, 27 July 2009 18:08 (fourteen years ago) link

i think it would be a retarded trade as well

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Monday, 27 July 2009 18:09 (fourteen years ago) link

it seems like a zero-sum deal strictly based on talent, except the dodgers would be giving away players with a potentially high ceiling in favor of guys who may have already peaked.

omar little, Monday, 27 July 2009 18:15 (fourteen years ago) link

this wouldn't surprise me at all given how fucking dense coletti is.

call all destroyer, Monday, 27 July 2009 18:17 (fourteen years ago) link

I think this rumor got debunked pretty quickly. I wouldnt be surprised if Ned is trying to pull of some sort of deal because a.) he tries this shit every year and b.) his job is more or less on the line since his contract is up this year and hes been reigned in by McCourt a couple times before and has quality subordinates under him waiting to take his job.

and c. see post above

mayor jingleberries, Monday, 27 July 2009 18:18 (fourteen years ago) link

this would be like trading away pedro martinez and eric karros for bill swift and benito santiago

omar little, Monday, 27 July 2009 18:19 (fourteen years ago) link

benito will cut you for that

bnw, Monday, 27 July 2009 18:32 (fourteen years ago) link

the dodgers have experience in trading away pedro martinez so we are pros at this shit

Which side do you think would turn down a Vernon Wells for Barry Zito trade? The Jays, right?

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Monday, 27 July 2009 20:43 (fourteen years ago) link

yes.
both sides probably.

where'd this come from?

Which side do you think would turn down a Vernon Wells for Barry Zito trade? The Jays, right?

Even without considering the leagues/ballparks of the two teams, the Jays have shown that they can assemble a starting rotation out of spare parts, so I'd much rather have a plus defender at a key position who can hit a little.

vernon wells' UZR this year is -21

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 06:34 (fourteen years ago) link

poly, did you see this article on espn.com? it lists the 15 most untradeable players in baseball, and wells is two and zito is one

I saw it after I posted in this thread. I would love to see that trade happen. I think Wells could actually have a nice season or two in the NL, whereas Zito would get shredded in the AL East.

Yankees looking into Arroyo must be a hoax, RIGHT?

Sage Rosenthal expresses remorse over the state of trade deadline bullshit pedaling:

"The thing that bothers me in this day and age is that nobody really cares about being wrong," says Ken Rosenthal of Foxsports.com, who noted he corrected an error in one of his online reports within an hour of its original post Sunday.

"When I started," says Rosenthal, who has covered baseball since 1984, "the biggest sin of all was to be wrong. But it just blows my mind that people don't feel bad about being wrong. Our standards have dropped. And it bothers the hell out of me."

giants apparently going hard after freddy sanchez

meme-first attitude (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 19:49 (fourteen years ago) link

without even looking at the gigantes roster i support them in that.

call all destroyer, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 20:05 (fourteen years ago) link

However, the $8.1-million option for next season that triggers if Sanchez reaches 600 plate appearances this season remains a stumbling block for many teams. It is one of the reasons why San Francisco has backed off, particularly after acquiring first baseman/outfielder Ryan Garko from Cleveland in a trade on Monday night.

Multiple executives say they believe the Pirates have little chance of getting much in return for Sanchez without being willing [to pay] part of the option.

Your heartbeat soun like sasquatch feet (polyphonic), Tuesday, 28 July 2009 20:06 (fourteen years ago) link

really? 8.1 for freddy sanchez is an issue for sf?

buchholz, bowden, and ryan westmoreland offered by sox for halladay.

and rejected.

The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall, Tuesday, 28 July 2009 20:18 (fourteen years ago) link

1:57pm: Yahoo's Gordon Edes reports that the Red Sox offered "at least" Clay Buchholz, Michael Bowden and Ryan Westmoreland to the Blue Jays for Halladay. In my opinion, that is a very strong offer. Edes says the Jays would like to acquire a shortstop since they are "vigorously shopping" Marco Scutaro. That means the Sox might need to get creative.

Edes says Daniel Bard and Casey Kelly "have been declared off-limits by the Red Sox." And while the Dodgers deem Clayton Kershaw untouchable, they've at least discussed internally the possibility of moving Chad Billingsley. Billingsley might be the best name we've heard yet in connection with Halladay, though remember that Edes labeled that an internal discussion.

I do not for a second believe that Buchholz/Bowden/Westmoreland rumor.
