I think we can all agree that the 2017 Arizona Diamondbacks do not exist

am rooting for them and the rockies in the playoffs and no one else

I'm involved in a 10-person, 3-teams each, total-wins baseball pool. I had the 7th or 8th pick and ended up with the Jays (made sense to pick them, even though there were a couple of other more promising teams available), the Rockies, and the Diamondbacks. After the draft finished, I hated my team. 1) I was, as hometown fans often are, iffy on the Jays going into the season; 2) have never liked the Rockies because of their park; and 3) knew nothing about the Diamondbacks outside of Goldschmidt and Greinke, and felt stupid for unthinkingly taking two teams from the same division (seemed to be guaranteed counter-productive).

As you might guess, I'm currently in first and widening my lead. Today's typical: Jays lose, looks like the other two will win. I don't know how long this will last, but it's been amazing.

So does the success of the 2017 D-Backs say that Dave Stewart was not far off to creating a winner in the first place? It doesn't look like they made a ton of moves as much this year as things just started to click.

Major League Baseball officials are so alarmed by recent equipment breakdowns at Chase Field that they might require the Arizona Diamondbacks to leave Phoenix unless the county government pays for millions of dollars in stadium repairs, an attorney for the team warned Tuesday.

It's the first time the team has indicated that MLB is directly involved in the dispute, ramping up pressure in its long-running lawsuit against Maricopa County.

County officials counter, however, that recent pipe failures being pointed out by the team were the responsibility of the Diamondbacks and were subject to routine maintenance that doesn't apply to the bigger argument over major repairs.

Your timing is perfect, Earl--we've been pleasantly discussing this question elsewhere.

If I had a vote, I'd cast a close one for Goldschmidt right now, partly because of how amazingly consistent he's been. His monthly OPSs are .983, .999, 1.073, .964, and 1.015; in a close contest, I prefer that to someone who's streakier. But unless they figure out a way to slow down Stanton, I think he's going to be tough to beat.

I think there is still 7 games left between Brewers and Cubs, those are going to be great to watch.

Maybe this has been commented upon elsewhere. Godley got the win today, Shipley pitched the ninth, no other pitchers involved--reinforcing once again the old adage that Godleyness is next to Shipleyness.
