C or D: Leggings/Stirrups

Classic or Dud: Baseball players who wear stirrups, or leggings as we called them as kids, over their socks.

I say classic. When I played Pony League, I wore my pants pushed up to the bottom of my kneecap and then wore long stirrups over my sanitary hose. Then my teammates made fun of me because they all wore their pants as far down as possible, with very little sock or stirrup showing. I'm ashamed to say that I caved to the peer pressure and started wearing mine that way, too. 99% of major leaguers these days wear their pant all the way down and show no sock at all. I miss the days when the stirrups were the standard.

But those socks with the fake stirrup stripe down the side that the Oakland A's used to wear in the late 80's were definitly Dud.

Stopping baseball players from pulling their pant legs down to their shoes has been my life long goal and I'm failing miserably.

So boldbury otm times one million.

i had my pants leg hit at mid/top of the calf on days that i was pitching, below the calf on days i was in the field. i never liked the pants coming down the cleats.

i think there's a happy medium between trot nixon looking like he's wearing some 13-year old's pants (they barely pass his knees for christ's sake) and manny ramirez looking like he's got david ortiz's pants on (way too baggy and almost cover his spikes).

yaz was my idol growing up. i even tried to teach myself to bat left-handed when it was painfully obvious that i could barely hit right-handed.

cheers to #8!

high socks are always classic.

Bonds is Dud. The rest are Classic.

I should clarify: the long pants only work for me on Bonds. The striped socks only suck on Jason Simontacchi.

socks all the way, dude.

now if mlb would just stop regulating how broken in a dude's hat can be, we'd be in business.

The guy I remember wearing the highest socks in the early-mid '70s was Rusty Staub.

It helps if you have killer calves, like Prior or Jim Thome.

High socks are the only reason why Neifi and JT Snow are still in the game.

The long pants also work on Mussina, cuz his legs look 10 feet long.

Delino DeShields was crazy about the leggings.

Manny Ramirez looks like a speed demon when he shows some stirrup.
