Does anybody here play or watch golf? I'm asking because I have managed to get my grubby little hands (and I do have small hands (but I don't smell like cabbage)) on a pair of tournament passes for the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, which started this morning. I'm taking tomorrow off and plan to be there for portions of the next three days. Anybody ever been to a PGA event? This will be my first and I was wondering what to expect.

a friend of my mine has an uncle who was a chef at the country club in brookline when they hosted they ryder cup 5 years ago, he said it was a non-stop party.

it's been a while since i've hit the links, i wish i was on a course right now.

Yes, I play. And I've been to one PGA event when I was about 12. You walk around all day in silence.

The tournaments that I've been to in the past have been a lot of fun. Generally speaking, you can either stake out a good spot on the course, and watch as each successive group comes through to play that hole; or you can pick out a three-some to follow from hole to hole.

You'll learn a lot about the game - things that you can't pick up from watching on TV. Also see which players enjoy the give-and-take with the spectators; and which ones are aloof and don't like to be bothered.

Around 4pm on Saturday and Sunday are the highlights of my weekend as I break out the booze and snacks and get down with the PGA.

I've never been to a PGA event but I recommend keeping quiet around Davis Love.

these days, i prefer miniature golf to the links.

i recall reading somewhere that miniature golf is the one sport where the variance of skill between the best and the average player is the smallest.

I love to play and love to watch it. Finally broke 80 last year, just once so far, but usu. shoot around 85-88. Also had my first eagle last year.

OK, after two days I have the greatest farmer tan I have ever acheived in 15+ years of golf and/or construction work.

The golf has been solid, not exactly spectacular as of yet. I did watch Tiger roll one up on the green from about 200 yards out and 20 yards off the right side of the fairway on 15. Mostly today we just saw a bunch of pars with a smattering of 3-4 foot birdie putts on the 10th and 14th greens.

I did witness Sergio's birdie on 17 to push his score for the tournament to -11, and he head into the final round holding a two stroke lead over Jerry Kelly. Tiger shot even today and sits at -8 along with Deane Pappas.

Oh, and the scenery ranges from full-of-potential to past-the-prime and hits all points in between, including absolutely-superb.

Wow! Justin Leonard just eagled #11 to go -7 on the day and take over the lead at Colonial.
