half-game behind the D-backs!

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 16 May 2005 17:53 (twenty-one years ago)

they swept the marlins, in their home run-unfriendly park!

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 16 May 2005 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

love this team somehow

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Diamondbacks - meh.

PADRES & DODGERS 4EVAH!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Worst division in the majors FWIW.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:16 (twenty-one years ago)

NL Central's right there, tho.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:18 (twenty-one years ago)

too early for that
kind of talk gygax my man
(also: AL WEST)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Dodgers and Padres are both quality teams; I don't see the Giants or Arizona keeping up with them.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:27 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i think al west is by far the stinker this year.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:28 (twenty-one years ago)

DAMN YOU MONEYBALL!

or

DAMN YOU KENDALL & CHAVEZ!

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Oakland's offense has much more upside than any team in the NL West. I'd take Oakland's pitching over SF's as well.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 16 May 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Even at this early point in the season, only two teams are more than three games off their Pythagorean record.

The Marlins are four games worse than they should be.

The DBacks are SIX games better than they should be!!

Pythagoras is close to dead on with most teams so far (within two games for about 75% of all teams), with the AL and NL West being clearly the weakest. But like gygax said, I see a lot more upside with the AL West.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 16 May 2005 21:32 (twenty-one years ago)

DAMN YOU BRANDON LYON!

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

There is only one NL team with a better record than the Padres... we just beat them three out of four on a road. Thus: the Padres are obviously the best team in the NL.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 18 May 2005 06:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I saw Lou, owner of Lou's records at Petco (vs smoltz, Atl) the other night. Sweet seats right behind 3rd base.

tylero (tylero), Saturday, 28 May 2005 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

three weeks pass...
I know the NL West isn't that great, but I really think that the Padres can take care of anyone in the NL apart from the Cardinals, and the Padres took 3 of 4 in St. Louis earlier. When this team is bad, they really suck, but when they're on, they're a pretty damned good team.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 04:09 (twenty years ago)

when's Loretta back? when they lost him, they took a nosedive.

STL in a playoff series with Edmonds and Rolen at full strength looks unbeatable but then again, they have a brief history of rolling over and playing dead in the playoffs.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 15:40 (twenty years ago)

Loretta said to return around the Break.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Wednesday, 22 June 2005 20:15 (twenty years ago)

I'd like to see the Padres try something like Lawrence/Barfield for Zito, and maybe try to pick up a young 3b while they're at it.

Does anyone know why Linebrink hasn't been pitching lately?

Leeeeeee (Leee), Sunday, 3 July 2005 03:24 (twenty years ago)

google news (sorted by date) is great for these kind of questions:

Cortisone updates (7/4/05)
Reliever Scott Linebrink threw 95 mph yesterday, three days after he had a cortisone shot to relieve a sore right shoulder, and two days after the Padres traded fringe starters Darrell May and Tim Redding for reliever Quantrill. Trainer Todd Hutcheson said Linebrink's soreness wasn't ominous and the forecast is for a healthy second half.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 5 July 2005 16:05 (twenty years ago)

How significant is Quantrill acquisition?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 6 July 2005 01:29 (twenty years ago)

He's a washed-up strike thrower... at the very least hopefully the great expanse of Petco's outfield combined with the highly-salinated marine-layer will help keep the ball in the park.
