man they looked like crap yesterday. but i think they might maybe stay in it? maybe not, hard to say since chicago's so far ahead. but they have tampa and arizona this week, teams i think they could potentially sweep.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 16 May 2005 19:29 (twenty-one years ago)

also how can you hate on a team with a guy named NOOK LOGAN on it?

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 16 May 2005 19:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I-Rod's performance is a little more human this year, which matches his 30# less deflated torso.

gygax! (gygax!), Monday, 16 May 2005 19:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Dmitri, what is up with yr ankiel, will you play later this week, I'm a big fan even if your non-opening-day HR total is only two, write me back k thx bye

P.S. Is your brother better than you yes or no. Cd you kick his ass yes or no. Are you said you were named all russiany while he got an awesome generic sports guy name yes or no. My friend thinks you're fat but you have stolen one more base than Jorge Cantu yes or yes.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Monday, 16 May 2005 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I HATE YOU NATE "22 BBs, 17 Ks, 3.23 ERA" ROBERTSON.

Le (Leee), Monday, 16 May 2005 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

dude he's never pitched well against the angels.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 16 May 2005 20:51 (twenty-one years ago)

For those keeping track, we now have rolling 2005 threads for 17 of the 30 major league clubs.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 00:45 (twenty-one years ago)

18* if you include last year's White Sox thread (which has continued into this year)

*this number includes the Hating on the Yankees thread

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

there should be a thread for every club

CELEBRATE THE GAME

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 May 2005 05:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Bonderman's going in a couple of minutes, if the rain holds up.

Saw him pitch against the Red Sox a couple of weeks ago, and he pitched terrible, but got out of so many big jams that it showed me more than one of his 4 hitters.

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 19 May 2005 15:57 (twenty-one years ago)

bonderman's not going, actually. dead arm. maroth is starting in his place.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 19 May 2005 16:01 (twenty-one years ago)

wha!?!!?!?!?!?
"Dead arm", as in what kinda dead arm?

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 19 May 2005 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

UNDEAD ARM! BRAINS!

Actually, if there's rain in the forecast, it makes sense to save him (the Tiggers' best pitcher) (ANDY K DOUBTED ME HE DID!) for a start where he can have the opportunity to go deep into the game w/out fear of his start ending prematurely.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 19 May 2005 16:08 (twenty-one years ago)

i really have no idea what a dead arm is. that's just what the detroit reporter told me.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 19 May 2005 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

According to this page, "dead arm" refers to "a lack of strength associated with all arm movements, feels like the arm is 'just hanging there'".

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 19 May 2005 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

btw, thanks for the blog, h.

Craig Monroe told us in Texas on the last trip that Percival, who lockers next to Craig, has taken the time to help him with how other relievers are apt to pitch him.

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 19 May 2005 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It shoulda rained.

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 19 May 2005 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Leading AL shortstops in VORP and Equivalent Average:

Tejada 22.3 .317
Guillen 21.5 .329
Jeter 20.3 .303

Guillen was a slightly better player than Tejada for most of '04 too. Carlos for All-Star! (he won't win of course)

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 20 May 2005 13:58 (twenty-one years ago)

He might! Not that Tejada (or Walkaholic Jetes!) aren't worthy nominees.

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 20 May 2005 14:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Lord help me if RSN gets Renteria in the AL SS top 3, I will piss and crap on Landsdowne (sic) St. TAKE THAT CASK 'N FLAGON!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 20 May 2005 14:26 (twenty-one years ago)

You're dreamin', Dave. Guillen should've finished in the top ten of the AL MVP last year, and I think he got ONE stinkin' down-ballot vote! And the fans aren't THAT much smarter than the writers...

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 20 May 2005 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I agree re: MVP last year! What I'm saying, re: All-Star THIS year, is that both Tejada & Jetes are neck-and-neck w/ CG. If you account for last year's performance as well, I think Tejada's still a viable option (tho Jetes drops out of the running quick-like).

8 MILE REPRAZENT YES!

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 20 May 2005 14:40 (twenty-one years ago)

bonderman's looking pretty bad tonight.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 20 May 2005 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

The way Renteria is playing, I can't even see Red Sox fans voting him for the all-star team, let alone anyone else.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Saturday, 21 May 2005 01:55 (twenty-one years ago)

uh, he doesn't play for the tigers now does he?

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 21 May 2005 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Can I just say that I live less than a mile from Detroit, have cable TV and AM NOT ALLOW TO VIEW THE TIGERS ON TV THIS YEAR!

peepee (peepee), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Stencil with the unnecessary whip crack!

David R. (popshots75`), Sunday, 22 May 2005 20:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Was Nook Logan conceived in the breakfast nook?

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Friday, 27 May 2005 12:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Does he have a brother named Cranny?

David R. (popshots75`), Friday, 27 May 2005 13:14 (twenty-one years ago)

He's the Nook-ular option.

brianiac (briania), Friday, 27 May 2005 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

thank god he's not vietnamese.

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Friday, 27 May 2005 16:06 (twenty-one years ago)

i thought phonetically "nook" (spelled "nuoc") means fish in vietnamese? hmm.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 27 May 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

YEAH TIGERS 2-OF-3.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 2 June 2005 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

EEEEked out a win.
4-0 in extra inning games vs. their record in one run games.
You figure it out and then get back to me.

peepee (peepee), Thursday, 2 June 2005 21:49 (twenty-one years ago)

More good stuff from Urgie.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 2 June 2005 21:50 (twenty-one years ago)

one month passes...
Farnsworth WOULD fill WWF tights nicely.

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Monday, 18 July 2005 14:13 (twenty years ago)

I'm excited to have Maggs back!!

crown victoria (dymaxia), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 01:23 (twenty years ago)

hehehe .. that's the second time The Farns has pulled that double-leg takedown move. Two points!

Stormy Davis (diamond), Tuesday, 19 July 2005 01:36 (twenty years ago)

Hey, I went to the game today vs. the Sox, and I must say, things are coming together for them. They looked really sharp.

crown victoria (dymaxia), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 22:42 (twenty years ago)

Meanwhile Ozzie is making some very Jerry Manuel-like decisions lately...

Stormy Davis (diamond), Wednesday, 20 July 2005 22:49 (twenty years ago)

see, that's the thing...i don't think there's any chance the sox will fade out. if they lose their grip, i expect the flameout to be spectacular.

the tigers have unassumingly stalked stalked along at a nice clip. i think they're a very likeable and watchable team.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Thursday, 21 July 2005 11:43 (twenty years ago)

They are! May my fellow Sox fans forgive me for saying this.

crown victoria (dymaxia), Thursday, 21 July 2005 19:42 (twenty years ago)

So, is this Farsworth trade a combination of lesTigres play the last week and Farnsworth being a free agent next year, or just one of the above, or neither?

peepee (peepee), Sunday, 31 July 2005 23:38 (twenty years ago)

Reports on Deeetroit sports radio indicate that the "clubhouse" was shocked by this trade, seeing it as the club "giving up" on pushing towards a playoff spot, and that because of this, Pudge wants out.

peepee (peepee), Tuesday, 2 August 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

Trammell ist mort*

*managerially, anyway...

Jimmy Mod wants you to tighten the strings on your corset (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Monday, 3 October 2005 14:18 (twenty years ago)

When are they firing I-Fraud?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 3 October 2005 14:39 (twenty years ago)

I kinda feel bad for Trammell -- they handed him one of the worst teams ever in his first year, and it's not like he had much to work with the last two years either.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Monday, 3 October 2005 16:01 (twenty years ago)

Didn't like the Trammell hiring from the get-go. My opinion of him as a manager became worse. Too cliched. He was not the reason they sucked, but he did nothing to de-suck them.

Let's see how Henry Ford does....

When and where was this? (I don't think I realized there was an ILB until the White Sox WS win.)

The way Renteria is playing, I can't even see Red Sox fans voting him for the all-star team, let alone anyone else.

Queasy now.

Andy K, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 00:23 (seventeen years ago)

Might've been some ILE baseball thread. Or a private e-mail. Or in my dreams.

David R., Wednesday, 9 July 2008 02:47 (seventeen years ago)

Trying to imagine who I would've considered better than Bonderman at the time. Maybe Maroth.

Andy K, Wednesday, 9 July 2008 12:48 (seventeen years ago)

(shudder)
