Baseball's problem isn't steroids or interleague play or Joe Morgan - it's the lack of an ambassador of the game, an individual that spans the decades and truly shows us that this game of baseball is indeed THE SPORT for people of all ages!!! And yeah, Oil Can & Rickey & Julio Franco & Terry Mullholland & John Fucko are all fine & good for old farts, but none of them hold a candle to Minnie Minoso.

To that end, I nominate ... TONY FOSSAS!

Did Mike Timlin play on the first Blue Jays team in 77 or does it just seem like he has been in the majors that long?

Did Manny Mota get to bat in this decade yet?

Since his career refuses to die, and Mike Hargrove seems on the verge of making him a semi-regular, how bout PAT friggin' BORDERS?

Borders as the regular catcher didn't work out so well for the Twins in last year's division series. Still, he's a great guy, and I hope he's got a couple more playing years left before the inevitable manegerial job opens up for him.

Borders as a regular anything hasn't worked out for anyone in the past decade plus. Wasting roster space on a player / coach that can't play seems really dopey, esp. when the M's time is better spent on seeing if Olivo can turn it around. It's not like slotting Borders' ign'ant tools into the 9th spot in the lineup is going a) give them a quality bat and b) improve the pitching staff, thereby c) justifying the off-season money thrown @ hitters than should've been thrown at pitchers and d) making it look like they're PLAYING TO WIN because they now have MORE VETERAN MOXIE.

B.J. Surhoff is another example of old catchers never fading away, even though I doubt he has played behind the plate much in the past ten years. Surhoff has been in the majors so long, he was with the Brewers when they were actually contenders.
