Yes, yes, Bambino, etc. I recall also that the the first time the Goat curse in Chicago was was heard of by ANYONE outside of Chicago was the 2003 WS, which smacks of creativity.

"Oh... Um... Hey! WE have a curse too!"

Then we have this crap on ESPN Pg. 2 (which is borderline useless apart from the Sports Guy) trying to stake a claim for a curse in Pittsburgh.

Is local mythologizing cute or annoying? A pathetic attempt to fill in a void lost when Teh Babe finally took a seat? Any particularly strannge minor league stories out there? Do you have a live rooster (is it a live rooster?) to take the curse off Jose's glove?

Mythologizing is cute to a point, and it's a nice way to sugarcoat the fact that shit happens, and baseball is often a game of chance (cf. Maddux not being able to control what a hitter does w/ his pitchers) - "no, it's not random, it's a CURSE!"

What the Red Sox did w/ their myth is unconscionable, tho (ffffudge the curly-haired boy toy), and I'm not sure if it's quaint or batshit gonzo that announcers and beat writers seem so fixated on HOCUS POCUS when a guy doesn't bend over for a ground ball, or a hitter's foul ball gets "interfered with" by a fan. It's like watching an old Universal horror flick. Also, leaning on THE MYTH as the explanation of it all instead of getting to the root of the problem (which is often inept management) is just lazy.

See: Dusty Baker using holy water on his player's aches and pains THIS YEAR. Better than a rooster!

It's mostly annoying, for the reason DR states (it was Bartman, not the Cubbie bullpen implosion!).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curse_of_the_Colonel

Curse of the Colonel (カーネルサンダースの呪い Kāneru Sandāsu no Noroi?) refers to an urban legend regarding a reputed curse placed on the Japanese Kansai-based Hanshin Tigers baseball team by deceased KFC founder and mascot Colonel Harland Sanders.

The curse was said to be placed on the team because of the Colonel's anger over treatment of one of his store-front statues,[1] which was thrown into the Dōtonbori River by celebrating Hanshin fans following their team's victory in the 1985 Japan Championship Series.[2]
