so what's significant about the new Basic Agreement?

Contraction dead, no negotiating deadlines for a free agent's former team to meet... what else?

They modified the compensation draft picks for free agents somewhat, I believe. Plus there is some incomprehensible change to the revenue sharing, I think. Or at least that's what the article in BP indicated.

I don't know if any of those things is significant.

The draft compensation change didn't help the Royals much. Hilarious to me that Mark Redman isn't even a Class C guy despite being an All-Star.

Maury Brown, BP:

I guess one thing that is surprising is that all discussion of an International Draft seem to be missing from the new agreement. That's been a topic hanging out there since '85, and was supposed to be a post-ratification issue after the 2002-2006 Basic Agreement was reached. The issue withered on the vine, and this time around, there doesn't even seem to be a discussion about it.
