I am so happy that everyone has decided that the Cardinals have it sewn up already, and that everyone is overrating the Reds the way they do every single spring training. PLEASE, national media, PLEASE keep underrating the Crew. We don't do that well under pressure.

Also, Jeff Suppan opens season on the disabled list with a "stiff neck" after just throwing 90 pitches in a simulated game while showing no signs of stiff-neckedness. LOL;DL.

T Bone Streep (Cave17Matt), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 02:34 (sixteen years ago)

DO NOT EVER HAVE HIM HIT LEADOFF, MACHA.

Andy K, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 12:38 (sixteen years ago)

Looks like not only is he gonna hit #2 (low strikeout rate!), they're working with him to hit the ball on the ground a lot more and take advantage of amazing speed. Also walking once in a while wouldn't kill him but, y'know, step by step.

T Bone Streep (Cave17Matt), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 16:42 (sixteen years ago)

jeez, did anybody see Prince hit that double 5 minutes ago? Almost fell down following thru on the hack, then windmills down the basepaths for 180 feet like a huge investment banker at a kegger. Funniest shit I've seen in awhile.

Why the hell is Edmonds (1) starting and (2) hitting fifth? Macha is such a clown.

Or maybe he's a genius, what do I know.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Wednesday, 7 April 2010 18:48 (sixteen years ago)

I know with a corpse like Edmonds it might not be wise to fall back on stats, but he put up pretty legit numbers against Cook in the past.

But hes playing at the expense of Corey Hart right? What did he do to get platooned?

mayor jingleberries, Wednesday, 7 April 2010 19:09 (sixteen years ago)

Hart had a mediocre to poor 2009, went oh-fer on opening day.

Not a bad little series in Pittsburgh: three games, three wins, 36 runs to one. Usually the Pirates kick our ass, too.

T Bone Streep (Cave17Matt), Friday, 23 April 2010 03:21 (sixteen years ago)

After today, the first 20-0 game since 1900: "It's rare, it's special," Braun said. "In this game, you deal with so much failure, so much adversity, that when you do have a game like this you need to enjoy it. That's the first time in my career, at any level, that I've been a part of a game like this, and there's a good chance it's the last time."

T Bone Streep (Cave17Matt), Friday, 23 April 2010 03:29 (sixteen years ago)

"I was able to spend the last three innings sketching out horrible designs for my horrible Ed Hardy rip-off clothing line. It was really something to savor."

Bob Uecker's going in for heart surgery on Friday, so he'll be out at least a few months' worth of games. Good for him, getting all that bratwurst residue scraped outta the ol' ticker. Wrestlemanias haven't been the same without him.

one month passes...

The Brewers announced today that they've extended right fielder Corey Hart through 2013. Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel guesses that the three-year deal "is probably worth close to $25MM."

Andy K, Monday, 2 August 2010 14:30 (fifteen years ago)

February 2009:

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Brewers made their latest offer to Hart and his agent, Jeff Berry, on Friday and it was rejected. Hart, who is arbitration-eligible for the first time, is seeking $3.8 million for 2009 and the Brewers countered at $2.7 million.

Andy K, Monday, 2 August 2010 17:27 (fifteen years ago)

That was just a one year deal though, and both parties knew that he'd be arb eligible. ie, maybe Hart was not interested in a long-term deal at that point. Still LOL.

MACHA SHOULD BENCH MCGEHEE FOR FAILING TO GET THAT BUNT DOWN

OH WAIT

Andy K, Sunday, 15 August 2010 03:09 (fifteen years ago)

eh, they won. what a loser franchise. I'm done. so done with them. No reason to waste 1 minute of my short life on Earth giving one rat's ass about what the Milwaukee Brewers do. No fucking way. Not after a brain-dead 'Macha' (what a fuckign clown-ass loser fucking has-been fucking cast-off fucking never-did-nothing scrap-heap fucking manager) trots Yo out last night at 100 pitches to pitch the 8th. Leaves Yo in there after the dreaded lead-off walk (as if *THAT* could not have been scripted), then puts in a fucking clown call-up who's never ever pitched in the majors ...... kid serves up a gopher ball to a loser like Tulowitzki -- the first batter he ever faces. Two run lead turns into a LOSS, just like that

Fucking Mickey Mouse shit, I don't need it. Fuck you Brewers, henceforth, I hope you fucking die

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 15 August 2010 04:47 (fifteen years ago)

wait, what??

Top 5th: Milwaukee
- R. Weeks singled to shallow right center
- C. Hart fouled out to first
- R. Braun singled to left, R. Weeks to third
- P. Fielder struck out swinging, R. Weeks caught stealing, catcher to shortstop to catcher, R. Braun to second

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 15 August 2010 20:41 (fifteen years ago)

wtf??

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 15 August 2010 20:42 (fifteen years ago)

Surely a scenario ready-made for your insightful yet subtle commentary. Olivo and Tulo have such great arms (admittedly not great enough to catch Braun taking 2nd) that they managed to catch Weeks stealing at the plate. Beautiful.

Mark C, Monday, 16 August 2010 13:26 (fifteen years ago)

it was a botched suicide squeeze. Has far less to do with arms/defensive prowess and more with Fielder not making contact.

Astronaut Mike Dexter (Jimmy The Mod Awaits The Return Of His Beloved), Thursday, 23 September 2010 00:55 (fifteen years ago)

Even with those acknowledged pitching problems, however, the 60-year-old Macha never seemed to be a good fit with this group of players. Most of the regulars are in their 20s and that generation gap showed at times. Many players tuned him out shortly after he arrived, and that situation only slightly improved in his second year.

Macha’s interaction with players, and sometimes staff, was limited for the most part, which failed to close the initial gap.

Andy K, Monday, 4 October 2010 02:08 (fifteen years ago)

Which is exactly what happened with the A's. They basically mutinied against him.
