The Brewers announced today that they've extended right fielder Corey Hart through 2013. Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel guesses that the three-year deal "is probably worth close to $25MM."

February 2009:

According to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the Brewers made their latest offer to Hart and his agent, Jeff Berry, on Friday and it was rejected. Hart, who is arbitration-eligible for the first time, is seeking $3.8 million for 2009 and the Brewers countered at $2.7 million.

That was just a one year deal though, and both parties knew that he'd be arb eligible. ie, maybe Hart was not interested in a long-term deal at that point. Still LOL.

Even with those acknowledged pitching problems, however, the 60-year-old Macha never seemed to be a good fit with this group of players. Most of the regulars are in their 20s and that generation gap showed at times. Many players tuned him out shortly after he arrived, and that situation only slightly improved in his second year.

Macha’s interaction with players, and sometimes staff, was limited for the most part, which failed to close the initial gap.

Which is exactly what happened with the A's. They basically mutinied against him.
