"Is that real? Man, fuck the reds. Hate them more than the cubs tbh"
So is Jonny Gomes a dick on Adam Wainright's injury? At least from the Reds' Beat writers, there doesn't seem to be much consensus.
Hal McCoy seems to be the one that sprung this whole singing on the injury thing.

There seems to be some differences on what went down from Mark Sheldon and John Fay who were also there this afternoon.

Not sure if this quote would be less dumb if it happened to be about Daniel Herrera.
“We would still leave (starting) as an option,” Jocketty said. “He definitely could be a top-of-the-rotation guy. He’s either going to have to do that or be a closer. I don’t see him being a set-up guy forever.”
― Andy K, Friday, 18 March 2011 18:55 (fifteen years ago)
D Stubbs doubled to right. 3 0B Phillips sacrificed to pitcher, D Stubbs to third. 3 0J Votto hit sacrifice fly to center, D Stubbs scored. 3 1S Rolen walked. 3 1J Bruce singled to right, S Rolen to second. 3 1J Gomes grounded out to pitcher.
Way to play for one run with the heart of your lineup in the first inning when you're already down by two, Dusty.

"The worst thing I did was accept that trade for [Reds GM] Walt Jocketty," said Edmonds, who went from the Brewers to the Reds last summer. "I should have shut it down and went home. I would be healthy right now and probably playing." He also criticized the Reds' medical staff.

Mike Leake was arrested Monday in Hamilton County, Ohio on charges of theft.Leake was stopped by Macy's employees in downtown Cincinnati after trying to leave the store with nearly $60 worth of T-shirts. He was taken to jail and is facing a misdemeanor. Leake, 23, is earning right around $425,000 this season.

I'm sure there is some hating going on after this weekend.
Brandon Phillips came up pretty big this weekend.
Reds starting pitching has really got a lift getting Homer Bailey and Johnny Cueto back.
They have to send down Chapman though, that guy couldn't hit the strikezone in T-Ball right now.

He's a wreck. Starting pitching is just not coming together like last year. The Reds got a boost getting Bailey and Cueto back, as they have both been pretty good.

dusty don't care
The Reds starting pitching which going into the season looked like it could be a strength has just been brutal. The bullpen has been really good and while a couple of positions are not hitting much, over all they are driving in runs.
Doesn't look like the magic is here this year. They might not be as bad as they seem at this point, but unless the starting pitching comes around, it is not going to work.

lol at votto getting pissed after edinson was doubled off second
― mookieproof, Monday, 13 June 2011 03:07 (fifteen years ago)
Beyond getting doubled up, Volquez cost them a run not getting to third on that obvious double down the line by Stubbs. Ed probably screwed up and got doubled off after screwing up and not getting to third in the first place.
Ah its the story of this year's Reds, they just let alot of games slip by small things. Last year they kicked ass in close games, this year they have already lost something like 18-19 games by 1 or 2 runs. Still considering how bad the starting pitching has been in stretches, it could be worse, as they are in the race.
Tejada did smoke Reds pitching in the first couple of games for like 4 or 5 doubles including I think one off Arredondo.
― earlnash, Monday, 13 June 2011 04:02 (fifteen years ago)
What is their rotation now -- Leake, Cueto, Arroyo, Bailey, Willis? Willis' walks are still high, but he's probably their fourth best starter.
Cueto's strikeouts AND hits are dramatically down from his rookie year.
― A Chuck Person's Guide to Mark Aguirre (Andy K), Monday, 25 July 2011 13:26 (fourteen years ago)
Johnny Cueto has really changed his pitching style, he lays off the heat going for K's which he tried to do in previous seasons and lives off his slider now which moves similar to a sinker. It is working, as the guy is getting his pitch count down and is staying in ballgames. The guy would be at 90 pitches in the fifth about every other start a couple of years ago. Cueto has also kind of made his twist a bit more pronounced, more like Tiant.
Pitching has been pretty good for a few weeks, but Dusty has been getting consistently burned by sticking with his starter one batter too long in the seventh.

Neyer:
"Do you remember when a lot of people were picking the Reds to win the division? I've always had them in third place, but I certainly didn't think they would play this poorly. And in a sense, they haven't played poorly at all. Would you believe their run differential is better than Milwaukee's?
It is. But where Milwaukee's 24-15 in one-run games, Cincinnati's 17-26. And there's your pennant race, kids. The Redlegs are done. Next year should be better."
― satan club sandwich (Dr Morbius), Monday, 8 August 2011 19:27 (fourteen years ago)
That 17-26 stat amazes me. Milwaukee has won a lot of 1-run games lately b/c they essentially have two closers. Cincinatti's bullpen seems even better. It seems like the starting pitching is not really holding up their end and maybe the offense can't quite catch up?
― frogbs, Monday, 8 August 2011 19:31 (fourteen years ago)
