Andy K, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 22:27 (twelve years ago) link

Sox scored two in the top of the 14th. Closer Santiago comes out for the bottom of the 14th, gives up a two-run HR to Cespedes, then three consecutive singles. Ballgame ovah.

Four HRs off Santiago in 6.1 IP.

Andy K, Wednesday, 25 April 2012 23:42 (twelve years ago) link

The White Sox wanted to drop a sacrifice bunt on six different occasions -- and we have to say "wanted" because four of them did not work. Not only did every attempt make less sense than the one preceded it, but they also did an increasing amount of damage.

The kicker? Zero runs scored as a direct result of bunting.

nutty crosstown game today - konerko hit in the face by a pitch, beckham knocking an initially safe dejesus off second base and tagging him out (all by accident) (and leading to sveum getting tossed), rios dropping fly ball out 3 in the bottom of the ninth

Adding another big boned, bald headed furry slugger to the White Sox lineup with Kevin Youkilis really puts the beer league softball feel of this years White Sox club into the Fisk/Luzinski range from the early 89s.

The Sox need either to fly the old 83 jersies with these guys or bring back the 70s softball uniforms with these guys and complete the illusion.

Dunn has really good chance to break his own record for lowest batting average for a player with 40+ homers

kizz my hairy irish azz (Dr Morbius), Friday, 21 September 2012 15:31 (eleven years ago) link

really the only thing saving this team is that the tigers have been playing shitty too

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 21 September 2012 15:40 (eleven years ago) link

They haven't been that bad (or significantly worse than expected) -- honest! May was the Tigers' only sub-.500 month. Their 2011/2012 DIFFs thus far are almost identical. They've lost a lot more one-run games.

Debating with fellow Tiger fans the past couple weeks has been a very strange thing. The fans have "given up" (whatever that means), and when I've said stuff like "It's possible that they will win three more games than the White Sox," I've gotten "Yeah those stats are nice but show me the intangibles and desire and determination." OK, sorry, right -- fuck this team. IT'S LIKE THEY ENJOY BEING IN SECOND PLACE, right? BRING BACK TRUE STAFF ACE NATE CORNEJO AND PROVEN WINNER MIKE MAROTH. Does that work?

The White Sox have been better this year than they were last year -- not shocking or anything, but that's the story.

Andy K, Friday, 21 September 2012 16:23 (eleven years ago) link

i mean more over the past 2/3 weeks - feels like the white sox have been flailing lately, should have been the tigers' chance but they haven't taken advantage

congratulations (n/a), Friday, 21 September 2012 16:25 (eleven years ago) link

Tigers fans really are the worst though, they seem to get more pleasure out of complaining than they do actually winning, it's as though they deep down want to root for the Cubs

frogbs, Tuesday, 2 October 2012 16:09 (eleven years ago) link

are konerko, pierzynski, dunn, and youkilis all back next year? that's a rapidly aging core group of sluggers

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 2 October 2012 16:13 (eleven years ago) link

Tigers fans really are the worst though, they seem to get more pleasure out of complaining than they do actually winning

I don't know if they're the worst but they definitely are getting worse -- the natural development for any now-expected-to-win team's followers. Didn't take long to go from "They better contend" to "God what a stale taste from watching this team stumble into winning a division."
