i was kinda joking abt moose. basically around the time of the john rocker debacle there was an anonymous quote from a player agreeing w/rocker in a gammons article - people reverse engineered it based on the info in the article and concluded that the source was moose. funny thing was gammons was saying that the player would never sign in nyc because he was such a racist. at least thats how i remember it. im sure you could google and come up w/a more complete version. anyway nothing but rumors an innuendo.

A: My main is a 49 Monk named Scythehands Voxslayer, and my alt's name is Cylc, Dwarven Cleric 19th level. I play both on the Povar server. I was in Soul Syndicate until I went away for the last few months -- great guild with lots of fun players. The guild disbanded while I was away and I am currently looking for another guild to join. I want to help friends quest (love that stuff) and do a few of the higher level monk quests, but you gotta have a guild to have a chance at that stuff.

I don't really hate Beckett at all (or schilling for that matter) but I can see how other people (especially fans of other teams) could. He seems to seethe contempt.

I don't see why they're reluctant to offer the guy 3 years. He's been pretty durable over his career, and his last Marlins season is the only bad one I can remember without checking b-r.

It's generally assumed that they have offered him three years; the question is whether he takes that or picks from what will surely be a number of four-year offers from other teams.

Why is this a bad deal? Career year or not, it's not such a big raise over his last contract, it's only a three-year deal, and Lowell's been solidly consistent except for a terrible 2005 season (which was surely a fluke). And the market for decent third basemen is *always* weak.

Cuz he's old and mostly a product of Fenway Park. But it's not that bad a deal. And hell the Red Sox can write off almost any bad deal anyway.

For some reason I thought there was a fourth year player option attached to this deal (ESPN implied that Lowell was looking for a four year deal and I assumed that because he wasn't taking more money from Philly it was here somewhere as well.) If the total thing is actual just 3/$37.5 that's practically nothing by Red Sox salary standards.

Thing is, this FA market stinks for corner infielders. Unless they somehow deemed Chris Carter (or Ortiz, I guess) ready to play first every day, the best-case scenario was Joe Crede if Lowell didn't re-sign. That they got him for $500K/year more than their initial offer is pretty great.

They seem to have learned their lesson from breaking up the 2004 team (also helps that they only had two major FA contracts to negotiate this time, both with players who were willing to take a hometown discount).
