Enzensberger has a sarcastic, ironic tone in many of his poems.[8] For example, the poem "Middle Class Blues" consists of various typicalities of middle class life, with the phrase "we can't complain" repeated several times, and concludes with "what are we waiting for?".

Still think the earlier Beatles' records sound freshest today. Anything from 63' to 66'. Most everything after I'm tired of.

Psychedelic whimsy just isn't a popular aesthetic right now. I admit I'd rather hear Rubber Soul than any later Beatles album right now.

As moving and as brilliant as this track is - and it is moving and brilliant - it demonstrates how the potential of art to create controversial shock and awe has all but vanished

Fascism and colonialism in the work of Cut Hands and Blackest Ever Black

I couldn’t get this published anywhere, so I’m posting it here. I think it’s really worrying that there are so few places in which we can talk about artists’ politics, even when they are actively dangerous.

It is interesting, isn't it? There was a time when listening to Squarepusher's "big loada" made me feel like I was listening to pop music of the 22nd century. When I listen to it now, it's almost as if I'm listening to an old Neil Young record. It's great, amazing, but it's in the past. That is not to say that Tom Jenkinson isn't a progressive musician...all those original Warp fellows are quite brillliant minds. But if you're looking for what the future holds for IDM, it's hybrids. It's always about the hybrids. As composer Morton Feldman said "Don't knock the hybrids, they're the only thing left." I believe IDM will become something else, which will become something else. Sometimes though, honestly, to label something is to kill it immediately. So perhaps IDM never lived. Oh, deep thought.

Squarepusher, to me, cant sound "95" or "drill n bass" or whatever. Even though he uses those classic sounds. His music tears up so much shit and has so much variety, that it actually trancends genres, years, bullshit, alltogether. Today I was listening to Hard Normal Daddy. There are times on that album that his bass playing rivals Jaco at his most frantic. You cant tell me that shit is 95.

Odd – I clicked on the link at the top and was rudely told by U Tube that I was not allowed to listen, so I went to You Tube and listened to the first couple of tracks there. My first encounter (and thank you LRB for making this possible) is that it’s chirpy, quite addictive but very derivative. Seems to be a universal hurdle in all kinds of music until a Coltrane, Mozart or even a Gabriel comes along to push out the boundaries. I will probably try another couple of tracks but as somebody once wrote “it’s like farting Annie Laurie through a keyhole, all very clever but where does it get you?”

Ms. Larrocha's piano sound is exceedingly majestic and expressive. The characterisations are just right, with a full-fledged Iberian atmosphere. There is passin and prowess, on top of searing pianistic nuances throughout the performances. You would not guess that this is a lady pianist.

One would like to compare Larrocha with her South American colleague Martha Argerich. Argerich does not display the same temperament as Alicia de Larrocha in many respects: Argerich is more inflammatory and less refined, as the different nationality of them depicts the different innate temperaments. The Spanish tend to be more refined and sophisticated on top of a passionate Iberian nature, while Argentinians are outright more volatile.

The game was influenced by the films Pulp Fiction and The Big Lebowski which features many lines of dialogue and characters lifted from both films. A few primary examples would be the main antagonist "The Kingpin" being heavily inspired by the Marsellus Wallace character from Pulp Fiction. The boss you encounter known as "The Jesus" shares the same name and personality as the Bowling champ from the film The Big Lebowski. Also, much of the NPC dialogue is lifted from movie characters. Many generics NPCs will say "Forget about it huh", which is another direct line from the film The Big Lebowski and many female NPCs will quote Jules from Pulp Fiction's "That's cool and the gang!" phrase.

CSI:Ambleside is the eleventh album by UK rock band Half Man Half Biscuit, released in April 2008.

As with most Half Man Half Biscuit records, there are many pop cultural references, and references to Northern and Welsh towns throughout. For example, the "CSI" in the title is a reference to the CSI franchise, in ironic juxtaposition with Ambleside, a small town in northern England.

The album was fairly well received, and the track 'National Shite Day' has received praise since, Tim Jonze of The Guardian newspaper referring to it as, "Hilarious and depressingly true", and "Definitely the only [song] to mention A man with a mullet going mad with a mallet in Millets"[4]

HMHB are quite good at irony and causticity, with elements of nihilism, but they are very sincere which is probably where Jonze comes in
