of course, the Pankhursts were the main motor for taking the women's suffrage movement away from its working class/Labour movement roots and then for cutting a deal to support the government's war propaganda in exchange for the franchise but hey

I've been noticing how much Germany has contributed to terrible American culture thanks to a typically on point nakh thread.

manchester's relationship w its peripheral towns is unusual and somewhat fractious so generally their legacies are kept distinct but bolton's blackout crew did appear in the manchester day parade one year iirc

I didn't realize how many of these krauts our country suffered from until both nakh and Tom Smith from TLASILA both pointed out that German-Americans make up 15.2% of the US population

I'm sure there are some good ones, but we should consider shipping a lot of them back where they came from

there's plenty of radical women in manchester's history besides the pankhursts, campaigners have keenly felt the relative lack of self-mythologising in this area and so there has been a #womanchester campaign to get a statue erected in the city centre, some sort of vote has been taking place

that's quite different from trying to provincialize a national movement with disparate sources via a specious local heritage industry origin myth of course
