Brissy and Coll

Why is it I've heard about 20 times today that Collingwood have only beaten Brisbane once in the last 5 encounters when the fact is Collingwood have only beaten Bris twice since the start of 1997. Once obviously last year in the QF and one other occassion (by 3 pts) in 2002. The previous 6 were won by the Lions by an average of about 6 goals.

I guess they're just hyping up the game. Maybe they should visit my site :)

Hawka, did you watch/listen to the game last night? Absolutely atrocious commentary. Can't believe Channel 9 and their so called expert commentators can get away with it, without a 'please explain' from the AFL.

It was probably the worst call I've heard (watched the tape today and am absolutely appalled)

Totally sick of the snide remarks from all four commentators regarding the Salary Cap Concessions; sick of ONLY seeing the Collingwood bench, sick of ONLY seeing information about who Collingwood is playing in the next four weeks (noted with only one travel outside Vic and that's to Adelaide; never seeing a stat on total numbers of free kicks (obviously because Collingwood had far more and still lost); and I never, never, ever, ever want to hear a minute by minute description of what Chris Tarrant is doing - he's sitting on the bench, he's going up the race, he's come back to the bench,...... bleating !

Well Eddie, Dermie, Gary and Dennis the answer is 137 to 77 and 3, that's three Premierships flags.

I actually thought Lyon was quite aeffusive in his praise of the Lions. Point taken about Eddie though, he should not be allowed to commentate on Collingwood games.

chrisso (chrisso), Friday, 9 April 2004 08:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Brissy are almost frightening, not sure how they can be stopped from making it 4!!!!

They are the only side who has gears

jsa, Friday, 9 April 2004 08:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey Lucy, I got a laugh out of Eddie at times.

Even 6 goals behind, Buckley was still kicking "magnificent passes" and Burns taking "tremendous marks" while Brissy guys were not doing anything other than getting goals that were points or posters.

Got so, that I hurt myself from laughing.

And don't ya really loooove Dermie's sideways glances and smug looks. He's just sooo hip. Wonder if he'll be a judge on the next Aussie Idol

Westener (Westener), Friday, 9 April 2004 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I find it hard to tell Dermie ('The Smug Thug') apart from the bloke who sends him up in the morning show on GOLD FM.

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Friday, 9 April 2004 10:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm loving this anti-Dermi stuff it's all spot on that's for sure. Good call Westy, nothing like a bit of Dermie hating for uniting supporters from all clubs :)

Ch9 commentary on the Bne/Collingwood game was appalling. Parochial and biased. The forensic investigation of every of the few free kick against C'wood; the constant carping from Eddie; the lack of preparation - no acknowledgement of Lynch's 600 goals or Pike's 100 - we in the Pikey for PM section know about these things -, wrong player pictures used in the matchups, inability to pronounce Bne players' names correctly.

I thought Garry Lyon tried to give a reasonable commentary; I fail to find a reason for Dermot Brereton's opinion on anything having any weight. Let alone the ridiculous hair.

Maybe Ch9 Bne does us a favour by not showing the Friday night games.

Collingwood look slow and inept; Scot Burns played well and it seems he's finally worked out it's better not to tangle with Jonathan Brown, like Piglet he seemed to remember an urgent appointment; at the beginning of the game this time he had to tie his shoelaces, something which a number of Collingwood players did at times of stress during the game.

The lions website has a survey on the quality of the commentary; disgraceful is in the lead.

Ciao

Maryruth Webster (deelion), Friday, 9 April 2004 23:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Maryruth all yhou say is true other than the mention of Pikey's 100 goals, that was mentioned very quietly in passing and so softly you could have missed it.

I don't know how Leigh Matthews could speak to Dermie without laughing, Dermie looks absolutely ridiculous - hard to believe he is touted as one of the hardnuts of footy, what a joke!

His looks unfortunately do nothing to give him any credibility.

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Saturday, 10 April 2004 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

The commentary of the game appeared to be a continuation from the crap they were spruking on the footy show on Wed night. Luckily I saw (most of) the game live, so I could turn the radio on.

Hawka (hawka), Saturday, 10 April 2004 11:55 (twenty-two years ago)

LOL@'Bne'supporters. You're worried about commentators not pronouncing the player's names right but you can't even spell Brisbane ha ha :) Imagine if you lot had anything to worry about!

I reckon you Gorilla fans have got no ambition. Try following the Cats, Dogs, Tigers or Demons. Now THAT'S a challenge! Bloody frontrunning blow ins!

I watched the game at the pub, did not hear the commentary.

Although going live into Melb, I expect is was typical parochial cr@p.

Lynch is not only a drug cheat but a thug. He is in the running for the low shot of teh weekend with Cambell Brown and Crawf(now THAT surprised me)

Lions are the team to beat, again. Seems they never have to rebuild.

Pies are in a mountain of trouble. Using Micks premiership clock, I reckon we are at 4am. Its a long road back from here.

Bennö (Bennö), Monday, 12 April 2004 01:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Lynch is not only a drug cheat but a thug.

At least he's not a kicker.

chrisso (chrisso), Monday, 12 April 2004 09:51 (twenty-two years ago)

"Lions are the team to beat, again. Seems they never have to rebuild."

Benno, wooden spoon in 1998, and no doubt we will be there again, but we'll enjoy the highs while we can.

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Monday, 12 April 2004 23:55 (twenty-two years ago)

How can you remember a spoon after 3 consecutive premierships???

Bennö (Bennö), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 05:30 (twenty-two years ago)

How can you remember back to back premierships after winning a third? I would STILL be drunk!

REB

Rik E Boy (Rik E Boy), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 05:31 (twenty-two years ago)

LOL @ REB. Ditto...

Bennö (Bennö), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 05:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Ahh boys, while the hangover lingers, as you all keep reminding me it wont last forever and eventually we will be on the downward side of this mountain - but until then! LOL hic!

Lucy Lion (Lucy Lion), Tuesday, 13 April 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Just looking at B v C now.

The Gabba looks like a map of the London underground: lines all over the place. What was the story there? (Especially what was that line parallel to the goal line which went from side to side of the goal square about half-way out?)

Fred Nerk (Fred Nerk), Thursday, 15 April 2004 10:57 (twenty-two years ago)

What was the story there?

Didn't they have an international rules game before the Lion v Pie game?

chrisso (chrisso), Thursday, 15 April 2004 20:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes the Under 17 International Rules Series had game one. Unfortunately the Aussies got flogged by Ireland. I hear however, they came back on the Sunday at the MCG and evened it out.
