I've said it before.
Eddie commentating Collingwood games is embarrassing.

As Eddie keeps telling us, in 40 years he has done many things to turn a quid, and I'd almost gaurantee he is/was better at every single one of them than he is at football commentating.

God help me if he ever starts to think he can call anything....
ps - Fred, I agree. I reckon anyone could commentate better than Eddie. The conflict now is pathetically obvious.

That, Mr Sport 927, is why you're flatlining in the ratings. Too many boring presenters. Nothing to do with the system.
At least you're staying ahead of the Trades Descriptions Act by calling yourself Sport (singular) 927. Tey broadening your appeal to sports we are interested in more than one Tuesday afternoon each November. Ask your morning man for ideas, he played a couple of them to a reasonable level.

From: inkl 13/04/2004 2:46:39 PMSubject: re: Eddie's commentary post id: 2758 Frankly, the AFL is tremendously afraid of Eddie McGuire and it is purely as a result of his media clout - radio, TV and press. The AFL knows that any move it makes that Ed doesn't particularly like will get a lot of negative airplay the next day, critisism that the AFL cannot immediately defend. How many issues have been bagged on his shows and then disappeared into the ether? I recall the issue of different coloured away guernseys as one such topic that, after being lambasted on his show, was spoken about no more.
Eddie operates on his own terms and he is first and foremost the Collingwood president. He has used that mantle to enrich his club (and please ignore the crocodile tears when he explains he is doing it for the benefit of all the Melbourne-based clubs. Collingwood has risen to the detriment of Footscray, North, Richmond, even Essendon). Only a fool (or the AFL) would think that Eddie can simply take his president's cap off when he walks into the commentary booth. This has been a huge conflict of interest from day one and it is unlikely that anyone else would have been able to get away with it. Unless, of course, they happened to host the most popular show on television.

McGuire blasts ump again 16 April 2004 Herald SunAAP
COLLINGWOOD president Eddie McGuire has stepped up his attack on an AFL rookie goal umpire, saying he deserved to be axed from this week's games.
McGuire also queried the AFL over its umpire selection policy, saying it was "unfair".
Acting as a commentator on Channel Nine last weekend, McGuire attacked goal umpire Brent Fewkes "as the goal umpire from hell" following a poor decision.
McGuire's comments sparked another round of debate about his dual roles as Magpies president and a commentator.
