I heard a story at the pub...

A mate was at a wedding the other day, and got chatting to a former jockey about punting. The jock told him a tale of epic gambling proportions... Now this is probably a great little urban myth, but 'ere goes...

Year 2000, Mr Punter goes to bookie and asks "What will you give me for 4 Lions flags in a row?"

Bookie has a think, Lions are good, but noone has won 4 in a row in a bloody long time... and offers 1.5million to 1.

Punter chucks $150 on it. Brisbane win in 2001, 2002, 2003. Zoom to round 3 2004. Brisbane look capable of 4 in a row...

Has the bookie topped himself or gone into hiding yet? Where does a bookie find $22.5 million? And has anyone else heard this story?

Wouldn't the bookie need to find 225 million?

However much he needs to find, I hope the fool is bankrolled by Mr Ed and that we do take out that 4 in a row flag! Poetic justice I say!

FFS Lucy. I think you have some sort of paranoia about Eddie. Maybe its love?

No Benno maybe it's just I'm sick to death of hearing some pouncy toad telling us we've got no talent and the only reason we've won any premierships is because of a salary cap concession. Given all the money Collingwood supposedly having - thanks to Eddie's wonderful presidency (and I agree he has done a great job for Collingwood) how come they are not a successful on the field.

I think Collingwood has been very succesful considering the lack of talent they have. There are better teams around than the Pies that have failed to finish above them in the last two seasons.

While Lion haters might carp on about the extra salary cap, Pie haters can quite rightly point out that Collingwood's draw is a significant factor (not to mention Port's baffling repeated September fade outs) as to why this group has over achieved.

Collingwood will not make the top four this year though because that other positive factor, the coaching of Mick Malthouse is rapidly diminishing as a source of inspiration to this young list. They've still got the dream draw, but the coach playing the blame game and taking his eye off the ball will hurt the Pies this season.

regards,

REB
