It has been reported today that the Brisbane Lions Football Club had been sanctioned $260,000 for breaches of the AFL's Player Rules.

"AFL Investigations Manager had determined the club had breached AFL Rules on lodgement of documentation concerning player payments" ... 26 times at $10000 a pop.

“The club is dismayed with the contents of the AFL’s media release,” Bowers said.

Breaching the AFL rules regarding player payment documents. Not quite exceeding the salary cap but were they trying to hide something?

From what I understand they have not breached the Salary Cap in terms of player payments in any way. It has been the late lodgement of documents - from experiencing their administration as a member I can confirm their administration is somewhat tardy!

They obviously didn't tick all the boxes and post all the papers on time, they have been saying since Late last year that they were expecting a fine for late lodgement of documents, but I don't think they ever invisaged it being so hefty!

Sounds like the AFL is playing their stupid tit for tat games. Essendon run their own website (which the AFL doesn't like)so the AFL fine us on a technicality. Brisbane has a sponsor the AFL doesn't like, so......
