Congratulations to Jako on a fantastic career. Love to watch this man play, sad to see another of the 92 premiership side go but can understand his decision. Thanks Jako.

I was really hoping he would kick a goal in the last few minutes and he very nearly did, he should have taken that mark in the goal square and he had a difficult shot with 30 seconds left. His first quarter was sensational and I was wondering - why now? But he did run out of steam and father time has knocked on his door. Great career.

No inside knowledge Chrisso but I reckon that the Eagles have gone to rebuilding phase and want to get as many of their young blokes as possible into the game and begin setting up their plays and structures without Jako.

Jako has sensed this and is the consumate team man in stepping down.

What a terrific player over many years. No doubt one of the best.

Jako has had that heart problem, remember he has had to miss games here and there because of it. That may have 'helped' his decision to go sooner rather than later.

His has been a top-class career. He was one of the absolute greats of the 90s, and West Coast's best over their 18 seasons. His battles with Carey were the stuff of legend. (Wayne kicked six the week Glen jacked it in. The final point in that rivalry goes to Carey?)

Except Fred I'll certainly remember Jako with fonder memories than Carey.

Brett Voss took about five years and a change of club to emerge from behind his brother. David Kernahan and Justin Crawford are just two of many who never managed it.

Glen J has the record for the quickest such emergence, though: five minutes after Glen started 'Wierd Al' was remembered, if at all, for being Glen Jakovich's older brother.

Don't forget Peter Worsfold.

He's a scrubber thug in a bush league now. And I DO mean thug.

Uncanny Hengeman, Tuesday, 18 May 2004 04:41 (twenty-two years ago)

David Kernahan wasn't a bad player but there isn't a player, brother or otherwise that would measure up to Sticks at Carlton...and that comes from the Beer Baron himself.

Pete W was one of the instigators in that blue at Cardigan Park back in about 92, when Bob Davis, high as a kite on outrage, said he must have been out having a fag when God was handing out the talent in the Worsfold family.

V.M.S. Bobby also said Richard Champion should change his name by deed poll to keep to the Trades Descriptions Act. Like Kerry Good should have. Or anybody called Smart who plays for the MOTN.

I hear Denis Pagan has been doing a lot of praying since he joined Carlton.:-)

David K had a couple of solid seasons at full back, mainly standing in for SOS when he was injured, which in those days was most of the time.

He was also a victim of the July 88 Moorabbin Mud Massacre, one day when in total, Carlton and St Kilda, seconds and seniors, eight players did their knees and missed the rest of the season and in most cases a fair whack of the next one as well.

Heard but never confirmed: One St Kilda kid from the U19s played his only game for the seconds that day, saw what happened and it sped up his decision to pursue other sporting options. The kid's name was Shane Warne.
